Miss Lou Chrysler made a trip to Alma on Wednesday last , returning on Sunday. Morley Piper has gone to Alma , where he will spend the fall and winter. i It will be about which and the other 1 now , between Ed. Piper and Will Templin. i ! Stephen Holies returned from Omaha , ; Saturday , where he has been attending the fair. He reports a big time. That was quite a little trick of Ed. Pi- I per's to slip around when Will was away ' and take his girl to the party. 1 Charlie Poyser has just put the finishing touches on the inside of the P. O. . and he f 1 can do a nice job with the trowel , if his . girl did not go back on him. i D. E. iloore made his farewell speech , as superintendent of the Sunday s > chool at Box Elder , last Sunday , and J. U. Piper was elected to fill his place , with W. E. Ketch as assistant. 3LvimiEi > . At Box Elder , September 5th , 1SSO , by Justice Chrysler , Mr. Andrew Lord , of Indianola , and Mrs. Ellen Paterson , of Frontier county. Mr. Lord is engaged in business in Indianola , where he will set up house-keeping at once. A large number of friends gathered at the residence of D. E. Moore , last Saturday evening , and proceeded to give D. E. and family a farewell surprise party , at which all enjoyed themselves hugely. Near the close of the evening several speeches were made and songs sung appropriate to the oc casion. Ij I j The following resolutions were adopted' by the M. E. Sunday school on last Sunday : WIIKKEAS , Brother D. E. Moore and his family are about to remove from our midst , andWHEREAS WHEREAS , They have labored long , faith fully and efficiently in our Sunday school. Therefore be it } a RESOLVED , Thatye , as a school , as a church , and as individuals , listened to his farewell remarks , with feelings of regret , ' and we do hereby extend to them our sincere thank for their Christian aid in our church and Sunday school , and be it further RESOLVED , That we do recommend them to their new field of labor , as earnest , re liable , Christian workers , and we pray God's richest blessing to rest upon them that they may be faithful all through life. Herman Myers left for Beatrice , Friday , on real estate business. No sickness to report , this month. Vailton will be a popular resort for health-seekers in the near future. Charles Rice and sister Anna spent the first part of the week here while en route for Hayes Centre , their future home. Charles Huffman and family from Seward are spending a few days at the old home. Mrs. II. is a daughter of Archie Speer. Also a brother of Mrs. Speer is spending a few days in our midst. Mrs. Megrue returned to Clay county , last week. The surprise gathering at J. F. Me- grue's was the occasion of one of the pleas- antest and most enjoyable evenings the socie ty has passed for a long time. The basket meeting was a success ; a large number filled the grove at the appointed hour and listened to eloquent addresses by Elder Berry and Mrs. Kanouse , on the subject of temperance , which was listened to with mark ed attention , as were the remarks of Rev. Armstrong. The meeting for next Sabbatli will be'held at the Dodge's school house. The Vailton ball players being considerably outof practice , gotslightlyleftat Banksville , but behaved themselves like gentlemen throughout the entire game. Great credit is due Messrs. Goodenberger , Winsor , Dodge and Bell , who spared no efforts to make the visit and game a pleasant one for the boys. Mr. Fredericks umpired the game and receiv ed the usual abuse for his fairness and impar tiality. We hope if the return game is played the Vailton boys will honor the game in their usual courteous manner , extending such hos pitalities as a long forenoon's ride may re quire and make the game a pleasant one all around.
