THE Boston "Mayflower" bloomed
again most beautifully , last Wednesday ,
the 8th inst.
THE wily , murderous Geronimo has
at last really been "taken into the
fold' ' by General Miles' forces much
to the disgust of the "phunny para-
grapher" of the enterprising daily.
FEMALE suffrage received quite a
boom , recently , in the person of Miss
Belva Lockwood , who fired a man , who
had intruded into her office , out through
the window , and then had the bad , bad
man arrested for breaking the Avindow.
SENATOR PAUL has finally come out
with a denial of the charges made
against him by the Bee. But we fear
that Jim's political goose is cooked be-
ydnd the possibility of a resurrection ,
at , this late date. The denial is not
enough.
! I AM in favor of putting a plank
into the republican platform in favor
of prohibition. I am in favor of the
republican party shouldering prohibi
tion , and I know that in time the party
would conquer under that banner. "
Senator Frye.
WITH due humility we would simply
suggest to our esteemed young friend
Ashwill , of the Stratton Herald , that
while we really have no time to crack
his "brass collar organ chestnut , " he
errs most egregiously as to our posi
tion in the Brown
matter. Almost any
able republican in the district can de
feat him. but don't waste any valuable
ammunition : you will have use for it
all.
Ouu esteemed contemporary , the
Culbertson Sun , relates the following
"good one" on an old postmaster of
the Driftwood country in that county :
"It is told of a certain P. 31. , who a num
ber of years ago , had charge of the Drift
wood postofiice , that a letter came to his of
fice directed to one , John Smith , Driftwood ,
Hitchcock county , .Neb. , United States of
America. He read the directions carefully
and with au air of doubt prevailing his mind
as to the proper destination of the letter ,
gave l the. following opinion : This is Drift
wood postofiice , that's all risjlit ; this is
Hitchcock , county and that's all right , and
this is Nebraska , but where in h 1 is the
United States of America.
THE and temperance press is daily
burdened with accounts of failures of
prohibitory laws , in their enforcement.
Possibly many , if not most , of these
instances citedjire correct in the fact ,
if not in the degree. But where is the
man who can with complacency see his
fellow man drawn into the horrible
Charybdis of intemperance and destruc
tion , without raising the voice of cau
tion and interposing the helping hand.
Whose bosom harbors the heart so ad
amantine that the wail of the widow1
and the beseeching looks of sad-eyed ,
poverty-stricken , misery-burdened or
phans cannot pierce it ? In view of all
this , who dares to stand in the way of
any attempt to ameliorate the condition
of humanity in this respect ?
B. 15. Burley , proprietor of the Burley
House , Belle Plaiue , Iowa , relates his exper
ience as follows : "Ihavehadtheopportunity
of testing the merits of Chamberlain's Colic ,
Cholera and Diarrluea llemedy in several in
stances in severe and dangerous cases of
cholera inoibus. From my expeiience in the
use of this medicine I can recommend it with
pleasure. Every one traveling should have
it and no family should be without it. " Sold
