HCLBUHD. THE Bee's Eosewater continues to mingle in the Stinking "Water affair. HITCHCOCK county came to the front , last week , with a suicide. Same old story too much whiskey. NEBRASKA'S "gentle zephyrs" are ladened with the sounds of county-seat rackets , these warm days. THE attorneys are taking a hand in the county attorney matterSee an nouncement above of L. L. Hulburd , the choice of their meeting held , last night , proceedings of which we publish elsewhere. "GO AWAY FROM HOME TO LEARN THE HEWS. " o Two years ago In the republican convention A. W. A pee was defeated for Lieutenant Gov ernor of Nebraska. He had then served one term as Lieutenant Governor and by all prec edent according to republican establishment in the state was justly entitled to a re-nomi nation as Governor Dawes and other state officials. The convention , however , under the control of shyster politicians defeated Agee and re-nominated the balance of the men who hud served one term with him. A ee is now a candidate for the nomination , with whal jirospects will be seen in the convention. II is certain he has the support of the State Journal and many other politicians who de sire to defeat Sliedd the present incumbent. McCook Democrat. After reading the above we met Governor 'Agei1 , and asked him of his alleged candida cy. AVe give in substance the interview : Q. Governor , have yon read the artjcle in the McCook Democrat , concerning your can didacy for Lieutenant Governor ? A. Yes. It verifies the adage , "Go away from home to leani the news , " ' or words to that effect. Q. There is the announcement withoul authorityfrom you. A. Entirely so. Q. Then there is no truth in the article ? A. O yes ; there is a good deal of truth in it. That I was as much entitled to a nomin ation for a second term , as any of those who were re-nominated , no one denies even the democrats can see the injustice that was done me , especially those who served in the Senate when I was President of that body. By "shyster politicians , " the Democrat probably means , mugwumps , and it is true , that I was defeated in the Omaha convention by the aid of men who defeated Loran Clark for Treasurer , and tried to defeat Valentine for Congress in 1882 , and later tried to defeai Laird in this district. I was defeated because I was a "straight republican" and because ] would not assist in the attempt to defeai Laird either for a first or second term. Q. What about the statement that the State Journal is supporting you ? A. 1 know nothing about that , I have not seen Mr. Gere for several months , and have neer intimated to him or any one else thai 1 would be a candidate , or desired the sup port of the Journal or any one else , I have never seen anything of the kind in the Journ al. If anything has been said , I presume it is because the Journal likes "straight goods , " and knows I never mix my politics. The fact is I have been very busy in my law prac tice tin's summer and paid very litte attention to politics. I have really been more inter ested in English politics and the success ol Gladstone and home nde , than I have in state politics. By the way , do you know whether Bayard is alive or not ? ( We said we believe he was still living , bul were not sure about it. ) Q. Would you accept the nomination il tendered you. A. That is a question I have not felt called upon to consider. 1 never try to cross a bridge till I get to it I have not anticipated any thing of the kind. Q. Who are you in favor of for governor ? A. The nominee of the republican party. We do not know whether the Governor would accept the nomination or not , but he has many friends , not only here , but through out the state , who would be pleased to see the next state convention make amends foi thevyionc done him at Omaha. Aurora Re publican. _ _ _ _ _ THE best evidence THE TRIBUNE has that Senator Paul of Howard county is the coming man is the significant fact that the Omaha Bee is feruinsthimand , is already belaboring the Senator with the scandal cudgel. AMONG those prominently mentioned for Representative from Furnas county we notice W.E. Babcock of Cambridge , brother of Receiver Babcock of our city. Mr. Babcock would represent the people ably and faithfully. IN this issue we reproduce an article from the Aurora Republican , which is of interest only so far as it stamps the alleged interview of the young man Friday with Ex-Lt. Gov. Agee as the usual canard , and as indicative of the demijohn's progressive journalistic policy. SOUTHWESTERN NEBRASKA , in her enthusiastic support of G. L. Laws for State Secretaryship , loses sight of all other political considerations , which fact will give her additional strength in the state convention. It is a support , that will not brook defeat or disappointment. CLEVELAND has always been a wise conservator of his finances and anatomy. He had the moral courage and economic spirit to be a successful hangman , but a felon-substitute represented him in the ranks of the nation's defenders. Here we have burning ensample of economy and regard for personal safety. ABOVE appears the announcement of R. M. Snavely , Esq. , for the office of County Attorney , subject to the decision of the Republican County Convention. The Colonel is one of the oldest and best known practitioners at the Red Willow County bar , and hasby faithful , pains-taking application to his profes sion , built up a legal reputation of which he may well feel proud. Shall he be the choice of the convention , the important office of county attorney will fall into careful , prudent and efficient hands. While his business and moral integrity are Such as should characterize the coun ty's counsellor. FARM LOANS. Cash Down. No Delay. o No need of waiting to send off appli cations. Campbell has returned from Hardy , where she has been visiting her daughter. Wo learn that crops were very much dam aged by hail on Sunday evening , about 8 miles north of here. Base ball is attracting much attention here , just now. Large crowds turn out to witness the athletic performances of the players. In spite of the dry season this part of the contry continues to advance along the line of prosperity and improvements of every kind are being made. The3f. E. Sunday school at this place con tinues to be well attended and the earne.it- nehS of the teachers and officers of the school lias a telling effect on the same. Miss Ella Piper received quite a severe shock from lightning during the storm of Sunday evening , but we are glad to say she has quite recovered from the effect. We understand that Tommy Coward and his girl got lost , the other nightas they were en loute for the taffy pulling. They were in Piper's canyon , and were a Long time in get ting out. Box Elder boasts of a class of church mem bers , who are an ornament to their profes sion , in that they go forward in the line of duty , regardless of the malediction showered upon them through the influence of a very unpopular pastor. A pic-nic will be held in Boles' grove on Saturday , August 28th , at which a refresh ment stand will be operated and ice cream and lemonade will be served to all who hun ger and thirst for such tilings in hot weather. The proceeds to be applied to the benefit of the Sunday school. SKLOXX.
