RESOLUTIONS
ADOPTED BY THE HED WILLOW COUNTY
TEACIIEUS' INSTITUTE.
WHEREAS , We , the teachers of Red Wil
low county , assembled in institute at ilcCook ,
recognizing the many benefits and tokens of
kindness bestowed upon us , feel it our duty
to express our gratitude in the following res
olutions ,
IlnsoLvr.D , That in tne deatii of our for
mer efficient count } ' superintendent , C. L.
Nettleton , we have lost a most worthy citi
zen , an upright official , and a valued friend.
We deem it fitting upon this occasion to ex
press our sincere appreciation of his services
in the work to which he devoted his energies ;
and , also , to tender our sympathy and condo
lence to his estimable wife and family.
KESOLVED , That we return thanks to
Profs. Webster and Ilubbell , who with un
relenting patience and industry have so faith
fully conducted the sessions of this institute ,
and from whose wholesome instructions we
carry away many treasures of knowledge ;
and , also , to Messrs. II. T. Anderson and
G. W. Minkler for their gratuitous and val
ued instructions in book keeping and survey
ing.
RESOLVED , That we feel greatly indebted
to Dr. Davis , Prof. Ilubbell , Rev. P. C.
Johnson , Prof. 13aiber and Supt. Jones for
their interesting and instructive lectures , and
to Chancellor Manatt , of the State University ,
for his interest in us , as shown by his recent
visit.
RESOLVED , That our thanks are due to
the Board of Education of McCook for tlieii
generous aid in helping to defray the expen
ses of the institute , and for the use of their
school building , apparatus and library.
RESOLVED , That we acknowledge tht
kindness of those citi/.ens of McCook who so
hospitably entertained us during our sojoun
among them , and the generosity of the Com
mercial , Windsor and the Central Hotels ii
their liberal reduction in rates.
RESOLVED , That our thanks be tendered
to all who visited us while in session and es
pecially those who favored us with a few en
conraging remarks.
RESOLVED , That we appreciate the kind
ness of the Trustees of the M. E. Church fo
placing their church at our disposal.
RESOLVED , That we heartily endorse the
administration of our State Superintendent
Hon. W. W. W. Jones , under whom the edu
cational interests of the state have greatlj
advanced , as shown by the increasing activit :
in all school work. We believe his continu
ancein the work will insure continued pros
perity in this line of progress.
RESOLVED , That a copy of these resolu
tions be sent to the county papers for publi
cation , and to Mrs. C. L. Xettleton and Supt
Jones. _ { ALICE M. MUUPHY ,

BOX ELDER BLOSSOMS.
Porter Maddox of Dry Creek spent Satur
day and Sunday at this place.
Miss Ella Piper will commence her schoo
again on Monday , after a vacation of two
weeks.
Our worthy P. M. , A. Campbell , made
trip to Curtis , last week , and reports railroat
building as brisk.
J. A. Pinkerton and Mahlon and Sid Camp
bell have gone up to boss the R. R. business
in Frontier county.
Miss Lou Chrysler has secured a positior
in the high school of Indianola , whither she
will soon go to commence the fall term.
Mrs. Dobbs of Beatrice is making her par
ents , Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Piper , a visit. She
is accompanied by her youngest sister , Miss
Edith.
Several fine rains of late have added a f resl
appearance to things in general ; corn in this
section , however , will be light , except the
late planted fields.
Cougger is fast becoming a lady's man , and
is playing the gallant in fine style. John
Templin has our sympathy. Xever mind
John , time will heal.
The institute is over , we should judge bj
the clatter we hear when several school
marms get together and discuss the events
of the past two weeks.
A ball game was played on Saturday last ,
between the Coon Crock club and the "Ox
Orients" on the latter's grounds at Box Elder ,
resulting in a score of 8 to 12 in favor of the
Coon Creekers.
Mr. S. Boles has as fine a rick of timothy
hay as we ever saw in any country , raised
on his own place at Box Elder. Notwith
standing the dry weather a good yield of hay
to the acre was secured.
Mat Stewart has completed a well on his
claim , 3 miles north of here. Water was
found at a depth of 78 feet. Mr. Stewart be
longs to that irresistible army of "old bachel
ors" without which the "great west" could
not be properly developed.
LOST A lady's beau , in the vicinity of Box
Elder , answering to the following descrip
tion : Tall and muscular in physique ; dark
lair and eyes ; rather high cheek bones ; neat
in appearance ; rather slow of speech. Orders
'or his restoration may he left with Miss
Kane or Miss Moore.
As Tom Coward and Mr. Cougger were
coming from McCook in their dog cart , on
Saturday last , they met with quite an acci-
lent. As they were crossing River Canon ,
one wheel of the cart gave way and precipi-
ated them to the ground. Xo serious dam-
ige was done , however , to life or limb , and
he boys left the cart , and the dog too , and
lastened on to the ball game , where they
vere to occupy quite important positions.
