It is reported that 200 fishers of fish
lined the Red Willow creek , last Sun
day , in a distance of a half mile. This
should not be classed with so-called fish
stories , gentle peruser.
MeCook was well represented atDen-
ver , during the races , the close of last
week. Among the number were : R. B.
Wahlquist , II. W. Cole , Scott McCoy ,
C. T. Brewer. I. J. Starbuck and others
of the fraternity.

The Mayor's silver-tailed fleet step
per engaged in an astonishing go-as-you-
please , Sunday morning , not on the or
dinary program , in which the road wag
on to which the animal was attached
was badly demolished.

decided as the time for holding the Con
gregational lawn social , and Receiver

resentative citizens paid their tribute of
respect to the memory of ex-superinten
dent Nettleton , by their presence at the
funeral , Tuesday afternoon. We noted

Pythias of our city were favored with
an official visit from James M. Irwin of
Tecumseh , Grand Chancellor Comman
der of this state. The Chancellor is a

Grove Lodge. A splendid repast at the
Bon Ton restaurant gracefully and sat
isfactorily rounded off the evening's

A JUDGMENT Hergcr & Midhler se
cured judgment in the sum of $1,400
against Messrs. If. M. and S. F. Ash-
more at the trial held at Culbertsonlast
Thursday , in which the point in ques
tion was a balance due the first-named
parties on a horse deal consummated
last summer.
On next Sunday , May 30th , the Con
gregational pulpit will be occupied by
Rev. Joel S. Kelsey , morning and even
ing. A full house should greet him.
If the reverend gentleman is pleased
witli the city and congregation , and
that admiration is mutual , he may be
called to the pastorate of the church.
To-morrow , ( Friday ) Prof. A. G.Bix-
ler will arrive in the city for the pur
pose of orgdnizinga musical convention.
The Professor comes well recommended
by the press of those places where he
has conducted convention , and he will
doubtless furnish those musically inclin
ed with a profitable and enjoyable season
of song.
With reference to that Driftwood af
fair , its friends claim it to be simply an
organization of settlers for their mutual
protection against the nefarious opera
tions of a gang of contestants , who
make capital to themselves , and trouble
to settlers , by indiscriminate and false
swearing in land contests. The organi
zation is said to embrace some 125 per
sons.
The close of last week , L. B. March
and family , who have been residents of
this county for a number of years , Mr.
March being in charge of the Hatfield
ranchthree , miles east of the citystart-
ed f&r Lovington , 111. , where they will
reside for the present. During their
tesidence in our community they form
ed a circle of friends who will learn
with regret , of their departure. That
their brightest anticipations may be re
alized , wherever they may permanently
locate , is THE TRIBUNE'S sincere wish.

gentleman , we believe , is spoken of as a pros

at this place , but now in the company's
freight office at Denver , renewed old-time
acquaintances in the city , Friday.
II. A. Nell is' family has arrived fiom
Fort Plain , N. Y. , and will hereafter live
amongst us. They are keeping house in
the Sheppard property in the northern part
of town.
Kev. W. S. Wheeler leaves , the Gist of next
week , for Baltimore , on an extended visit.
The reverend gentleman , when he returns ,
will be accompanied by one of the Monu
mental City's fair daughters.
Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Lytle of Greenwood ,
this btate , spent Wednesday in the city ,
guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Palmer , old.
time acquaintances. The ladies were return
ing home from a delightful trip to California.
Mrs. E. C. Ludwick , ( mother of J. H. Lud-
wick and Mrs. 11. Trowbridge , ) who has
been a resident of our city for almost two
years past , started for her home in Gilman ,
111. , Sunday morning on No. 2 , to spend the
summer.
Messrs. Geo. W. Kaime , A. C. Ebert and
F. L. McCracken fished for frolicsome finnies
festive , last Sunday , in the Willow JRed roar
ing. They icport exceptional success in
getting outside of the bread and butter and
milk bountifully provided by Mr. and 3Irs.

C. S. McCammon , who has. been business
manager for the Dunbar Pavilion Show since
its organization , returned to the city , Tues
day , much improved in health. He reports
the success of the company so far as having
been encouraging and satisfactory to the
projectors.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Stoup of Cam
bridge spent a few hours hi the city , Monday ,
the guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Campbell.
Mr. Stoup , who is the B. & M. agent at Cam
bridge , but recently entered the order Bene
dictine by wedding Miss Emma A. Harris of
Lincoln on the 19tn inst.
Sallie V. Dixon , Mabel Dixon and Sallie
R. Lamborn , all of Ottumwa , Iowa , visited
Mr. and Mrs. II. G. Dixon a few days , the
first of the week. The ladies were en route
home , from an extended trip to the Pacific
coast , and left therefpr , via Kansas City , on
No. 40 , Monday evening.
Misses Nettie andLutie Babcock , daughters
of Judson Babcock of Cambridge , who have
'been visiting Receiver and Mrs. C. F. Bab
cock for a number of weeks , wentdo\\n to
Cambridge , Friday evening , where Miss Net
tie will remain and manage her father's
household affairs. Miss Lutie returned ,
Monday , and will pursue her studies in this
city.

terian church , Louisville , Ky. , who has been
visiting Register Laws and family fora few
days , left for home , Sunday evening on 40.
Eev. Burlison formerly occupied pulpits iu

country. His discourse in the Methodist
church , Sunday morning , was an excellent
one and engaged the rapt attention of his
hearers.

on Monday evening , for interment , be

former school-mates.
