" He smiles to see the Lord High Execution er sharpen his snikersee. Senator Ed munds also snickers. THE Massachusetts liquor dealers have formed a protective association under the name of the "Knights of Li quor. " A night of liquor generally means a. night off. WHAT the conscientious Christian world is going to say to the "two Sains" at Chicago about chewing gum is still wrapped in gloom. What is the use of reforming a cigarette smoker into a gum gauiuer ? A DENVER paper on the prohibition movement in Georgia says : "It is like the roll of the surf : it is wt4i nigh irre- sistable. All but twelve counties in that state have voted against the grant ing of liquor licenses. Georgia is a promising field for druggists. SPARKS was revoked again last week. Lamar is a leisurely secretary of the old school , and has evidently set tled it in his mind that he will revoke Sparks just about once a vreek. Sparks , it is said , is not feeling very frisky of late and contemplates commuting his office for a foreign consulship. A LAW has been passed by the Ital ian parliament prohibiting the wearing of corsets by the ladies beyond a certain degree of pressure. If congress could be induced to pass a law of this kind , imagine the fury of the strife between the slaughter house and packing house democrats , over the appointment of a corset inspector for Nebraska. We trust that the law will not be passed for it would destroy the party in this state. Journal. A YOUNG married woman named Jen nie Woods of Chicago , whose husband was away in New York , took a notion to see the elephant in the absence of her lord. So she got a young man to pilot lier to an opium joint. She smoked , as in experiment , the unheard of number at' ten successive pipes of the deadly irug. Then she died. The young man has evaporated. It is doubtful if a wife ivith no more sense than this one dis played was of much consequence to her husband , and the loss to society is not rrepamble. Journal. 1 HE hyphenated newspapers , common throughout the country , says the World , ire now called upon to admit to their anks a curious combination published it Eed Gulch , Arizona. The original publication was the Red Gulch Dam. Fhe rival newspaper was the Red Gulch Fool. The two have been consolidated inder a hyphenated title , presenting a startling combination that calls for mild irotests , even in Arizona , against such lublic profanity. Anna Dra ] > er. of Hepburn , Iowa , briefly fates her opinion of Chamberlain's Cough lemedy. She says it is far superior to any nedicine she ever used for croup. Solil bv J. A.
