Preparations are being made to en close the Staddleman lots on Main Ave nue with a barb wire fence. It seems to us that the party ought to be restrain ed from building a fence of that nature right on our main street. It will not only be dangerous , but unsightly. This paper has repeatedly rebuked the miserable practice of throwing re fuse in the public streets and alleys of the city. We are at a loss to understand why anyone will continue in a course productive of so much discomfort and one so dangerous and unsightly , in the face of earnest protest. The innocent little "type-louse" has ever been a source , never failing , of amusement in the printing office , and of discomfiture to the unsophisticated as well. The way one of "our girls" was "taken in , " last week , at the Democrat office is a caution. The unsophisticated was as warm as two wet hens , fully. The Methodist brethren have pur chased lots immediately south of the church upon which they will erect a par sonage in the near future. The design will be very like Squire Fisher's resi dence , without the basement. By the eye of faith we can see Bro. Wheeler and but we will not anticipate the future. i Our friends up at Hayes Centre are at logger-heads over the title to the land upon which the town is built. The head jfficers of the state are expected to be iere , and a large turn-out is desired. We are' gratified to mention that our jentle reference concerning the estab- ishment of a grain market at this point las occasioned considerable favorable eminent. The matter ought to be thor- lughly canvassed. McCook will need o husband and foster all her available esources and territory. The increase n trade will doubtless more than repay vhatever outlay may be made. In view if the encouraging crop prospects , this uatter should receive prompt attention. JUSTICE COURT J. C. Lockharfc un Uerwent a little cooling process in th < lock-up , Fridayafter which he was triei before Justice Colvin and fined $5 am costs ; all for the'privilege of gcttinj beastly drunk. Megrue has fenced 400 acres in one pasture , indeed the great amount of wire fence built in this locality is simply wonderful , turning thu road on almost every section. The business portion \railton is not built quite as densely as in other large cities , owing probably to the fact that many of our business houses arc located on the respective claims of their pro prietors. We will brieily notice a num ber of Vailton's business interests. First we will mention our general merchan dise store on the north side ; also the wind-mill agency of J. P. Squire.
