Now that the wintry or rainy sea son is over and the Exposition is com pleted , let the people come and de cide for themselves if your correspon dent hus not given a correct account of the Exposition so far as our series of letters have reached. Mardi Gras , the great mythologi cal mystery , the anniversary of whieli is now and always have been from a very remote date , celebrated in Ne\v Orleans with much splendor , will on the J7th of February far excell any thing of the kind ever given here. Consequently thousands -who will at tend the Exposition have arranged to come to this city during the famous annual carnival. There is no mistaking but that the railroads are not making excursion rates as low as they might for the benefit of themselves and the World's Show. They will have to come to it and make cheap rates an inducement to come here. NEVADA. Commissioner W. N. Havener is justly proud of the Rocky Mountain State over whose destinies at the Exposition he presides. This is almost exclusively ujnining coun try. Esmeralda and Larider counties lead in valuable ores , of which copper running 60 per cent with cobalt crys tals attached , taken from a depth of SUOOfeet , is displayed. Ores of gold , silver and quick silver are rich. Ni trate of soda and salt from Churchill , snlpher and cinnabar from Washoe , rich silver ore from Humbolt counties receive much attention. Ores con taining cobilt and ni-klc , lop -to t ; eop.per ore worth § 1 a pound ; carlen ates. red oxides are seen. Rubv silver - * w ver ore worth $10,000 a ton is com mented on. The Comstock mine sends the richest ore which is alinusi pure silver. This mine in the past thirty years has produced over $315- 000,000. Specimens of ore from.Over- man mine shows different formations for every five feet to a depth of 2,500 feet. An ingenous model of the work ings of a mine from surface to bottom is shown. A petrified birds nest con taining eggs , is the wonder of the young people who visit this depart ment. Plaster casts of tracks of an extinct animal supposed to lie an ele phant of huge dimensions are given ; they are also photographed whe.e fond , some 40 feet below the surface in a quarry worked by convicts. Said tracks measure three feet in diameter. Also tracks of immense giants of the genus homo nien.sute 12x14 inches ; their steps or strides are six feet. They were found in sandstone well preserved. Sufficient to secure per fect casts and to photograph. Souu- fine specimens of free gold air.l silver with ores worth $20,000 a ton in ghisss cases to be seen not handled. The Piute Indians show much skill in pot tery and glass work sent ; fruit uoes ? well , but agrieultuie bettoi ; whea = goes 7t5 pounds to the bushel , and 5U bushel to the acre. Fine hay and outs are exhibited. Irish potatoes weigh- in - five rtounds are excellent. Virginia - . * ginia City sends a model invention of a stock car that seems veiy practicle and useful. CALIFORNIA. The golden state of the Pacific slope is under direction of commissioner C. B. Turrill , and out side of its untold mineral wealth show ing some handsome ores of free goh , and wire silver specimens , it has cov ered a large space in the northwest corner of the Government Buildii g with a collection of articles which , for variety cannot be equaled by any other state. The appearance of th - display is greatly benefited by the use of the California redwood for pos > t * and shelving throughout. The exhib it is installed by counties , the collec tion of goods from each county being under the supervision of a special corn missioner. This system has had an admirable effect in bringing together a large display , since each county has put forth great efforts to excel the other counties of the state. Santa Clara county sends a large collection of garden seeds , a product in which large interests in that conn ty are engaged. Some 1400 aties : aie devoted to raisirg these seeds in this county , and Santa Barbara , a. neigh boring county , exported last year 300 carloads of seeds. Two hundred and foity two VKrieties are here exhibited by Strong & Co. Sacramento conn ty fends a laige exhibit of corn of ali varieties , guiins , hay. ( the fourth crop raised on the same piece of hind i.-i a year , ) peanuts , hops in bales and oti the vines , buckwheat and agricultur al products. The figs of California are exhibited in their preserved state- ready for exportation. The county also contains a fine quality of clay ad kaolin which is'representod both by the native specimens , and the bricks , ! pottery , porcelain , etc. , m ide there from. A very fine silk exhibit is made by Mrs. Rutter , of this county. The culture of the silkworm is becoming a very important industry throughout the state , and all the counties have sent exhibits of the cocoons and the fibre as reeled and spun. This coun ty also sends some fine bunches of grapes and bundles of liquorice , a plant which California alone of all he United State.5 , is able to produce. "Where nrt you woing inv protij moid V' : In a small uuclusuie in Muii building u reu.1 dairy is arranged at tended by a bewitching youu lady who milks an Aldurny cow , and re serves yon a glass of rich , frt'sh mill nil for 5 cents. The Pullman Oar Co. , occupy t large space east of the Music Hal ] devoted to a display in miniature rl the city of Pullman , 111. , which isbuill up piincip-iliy by this unU'rprisiii company. Those who ever saw tht thriving place , can easily recognize this represi ntation , and those who nev er saw the original should visit the Exposition. The private exhibits in Main build ing , whther tor sale or show , arc jrreat features of attraction and are highly spoken or by visitors. Many intert'bting articles from the Hawvuan Istones have arrived a been placed iii good position. The Chicago , Milwaukee & St. Pg. railroad is getting up a miller's t'xcuir- h-inn from the North lor tlie Exposition in Febrtiuiy.
