The Tribune F. M.&E. M. KIMMELL , Editors and Publishers. SUBSCRIPTION$2 PER YEAR INVARIABLY IN ADVANCE. PRESIDENT-ELECT CLEVELAND has engaged rooms at the Arlington hotel in Washington from March 2 , for him self , his brother , his three sisters , and his private secretary. LAST Saturday afternoon , about 10 miles west of Creston , the Q. met with one of the worst accidents in the histo ry of the road. The accident was occas ioned by a broken rail , and the entire train , engine , baggage and mail cars excepted - cepted , was precipitated through a bridge. The sleeper , smoker and one day coach were burned. The loss of life and number wounded were heavy The number of killed has reached seven , and wounded twenty-four. Of the kill- we note Mrs. M. Farrell , wife of a sec tion foreman on Eoadmaster Phelan's division , west of McCook. IT has long since been a debatable question with many thoughtful Nebraskans - kans , what to do with that errant old demagogue , Van Wyck , and since the latest prank of that amusing crank has come to light , the recent contemptible sling at the western part of this state , made by our senior senator in the halls of the senate , the conundrum assumes a more serious aspect , among Western Nebraskans at least. Many favor giv ing it away , but Van's erratic tendencies are so well know and understood , that that means of disposal is blocked. Many and sundry other plans have been pre sented and discussed and still the old gentlemen holds the fort and airs his mirth-provoking idiosyncrasies. THE Bloomington Guard thus voices a want in that and neighboring locali ties : "The Republican valley is great ly in need of able bodied ministers of in dustrious habits , with sufficient push to supplement their small salaries by sell ing books , teaching music , short hand , book keeping , or some other useful oc cupation , filling up a part of their time give their best time and strength to the legitimate work of the ministry for a year or two more or less until these weak churches become self-supporting. " If we might put in a suggestion with out offense , it would be that the Valley is in need of a widely distributed spirit of liberality that would cause the church members to cough up enough money to support their preachers. I impeach this monster and arraign him before the bar of pub lic judgment and demand his condem nation in the name of industry robbed and beggared ; of the public peace dis turbed : of private safety gaged and gar- rotcd j of common justice violated and trampled ; of the popular conscience de bauched and prostituted ; of royal man hood wrecked and ruined ; and of help less innocence waylaid and assassinated. C. H. FOWLER , D. D. , L. L. , D. Atwood Citizen : J. P. Mathes came over from McCook on Sunday , bringing supplies for Harry Alexander and the ranch up the creek. He is largely inter ested in stock , running the 25 and round top A brands. He has lost so far about twenty head that he knows of , and has been lifting cattle for several weeks. He will farm extensively next year. J. C. Arbuckle came in from McCook on Sunday evening , and found his cattle doing splendidly. Mr. Arbuckle has some first class cattle , and they are doing unusually well this winter being in good flesh. His loss is next to nothing and with the care they are receiving they will come out iu good shape in the springl Energetic , wide-awake , and broad-gaug- e3 , there is no man in our town who has done more than Mr. Arbuckle to -advance its interests and increase its prospenty. B THE storm that has been prevailing throughout the United States since Sun day night , is reported to be without a precedent ; embracing a. circle of not less than 8,000 miles in circumference , and varying greatly in different parts of the country.
