THE National , Congressional
State , Judicial , Senatorial and Coun
ty ticket , as it appears on the first
column of our editorial page , is a
good one , and will doubtless receive
the earnest support of the voters of
tted Willow count- , who will lend
their voice and vote in electing every
candidate thereon. When you step
up to the polls , next Tuesday , cast
your vote for Blaine and Lojjan , and
- O 7
the entire Republican ticket , whose
lustre can in no wise be dimmed bv
comparison with any and all other
combinations.
WEST VIRGINIA has adopted the
amendment to the constitution chano-- -
ing state elections from October to
November. This leaves Ohio the onlv
W
state to hold an October election.
IT seems to be a debatable ques
tion whether the "God of battles"
or "soap" will be the more puissant ,
next Tuesday. In Hoosierdom and a
few other states the indications are
that the influence of "soap" will pre
ponderate.
iWno. enters here leaves hope behind
hindvas the inscription which the
poet's imagination placed over the warm
est place that he could imagine. "Who
enters here leaves soap behind , " \vas the
inscription over the gateways of'Ohio
just prior to''the recent election. Bee.
NEXT Tuesday , November 4th ,
will decide whether or not the " -rand
&
old Republican party , the savior and
preserver of this union , will rule over
the destiny of this nation four years
longer. The indications are that the
Republican party will be again en
trusted with the precious charge.
THE first number of The Settler , pub
lished at Ludell , Eawlins countT , Kan
sas , by George H. Hand , formerly of the
Ohcrlin Eye , is on our ta'ble. The Set
tler presents the same neat typograph
ical appearance that the Eye did under
his management , and George's style is
refreshingly unique. May success at
tend his efforts , is our sincere wish.
NOTWITHSTANDING the bluster of
democrats , they arc utterly demoralized
by their defeats in Ohfo , Maine and Ver
mont. Great reliance was placed upon
independent voters and "silent ballots , "
ibut whea the polls wen- closed the deln-
saoii.was 4e . For * independent
. -was * royctl. over }
pendent gain -the . { wurhons discovered a
loss of throe or four triplinierican and
German votes. And 50 jt will be in No
vember. llcpubliean. \
Despairing of success , and driven
to the wall , the "fusion" leaders and
conspirators in this , the Second Con
gressional District , are preparing , it
is said , a sort of "Morey letter" Post
er or flaming handbill , announcing
some sort of pretended "startling dis
closures , " intended to reflect upon and
injure the * republican candidates in
the pending election , and especially
Congressman Laird. We hope every
voter will be prepared for this con
spiracy to deceive , and treat it as was
the "Morey Letter" forgery of .1880.
Hon. E. S. Bruce , inspector of the
general land office at Washington ,
D. C. , who lias been out investigat
ing the charges preferred against the
officers of the McCook land office ,
passed through the city yesterday en-
rcute for Washington having con
cluded his investigation. He was
heard to say tliat he found everything
correct and very satisfactory noth
ing in the least calculated to in any
way reflect upon cither of the officers
or upon which to base the charges.
