Chairman C. 13. Manuel of the pop
list fltato committee finds that forty-
two fusion papers rofiiBO to swallow
Dahlman , and the gang buck ot him.
It might bo added that three fourths
of the remainder arc supporting Dah
man still , very still , as David B. Hill
would say. State Journal.
After reading some of the papers
in regard to Senator E. J. Burkott's
actions in Congress and then road
what Ex-PreBidont Roosevelt and
Senator Dolllvcr of Iowa , two of the
greatest progressive men In the Unit
cti States , have to say in behalf of
Senator Hurkott , one can draw ills
own conclusions that the senator ha
boon greatly misrepresented and tha
ho has been working all the time for
his constituents in Nebraska. Alex
andria Argus.
The Holbrook Observer insists tha
wo ought to support Hitchcock for
senator in preference to Burkott.
Let us see : The Observer repudi
ates Dahlmau for a thousand good
reasons , any one of which is simple
therefore It must bo conceded that
Dahlman is had. But Hitchcock is
a Dahlmanito , therefore the Obser
ver should repudiate Hitchcock also
instead of asking us to support a
candidate against whom all antl-
Dahlman arguments apply. If Hitch
cock had followed the lead of the O
server and thousands of other good
democrats throughout the state who
liavo repudiated Dahlman and pled
ged their support to Aldrlch , to sam
as Hicard L. Metcalf , of Lincoln , has
done , then the Observers strictures
might bo good. At present they
are strictly out of place. Beaver
City Times Tribune.
Senator Norris Brown , In his speec
a : David City lastSaturday , showed
up the great interest that Gilbert M.
Hitchcock , The democratic nominee
for U. S. Senate , had in the cause of
the people when Important measures
were before the recent congress.
I\Ji. Hitchcock , who is an aristocrat
and silk-stocking , kid glove sort of
, n fellow , it appears , was in Europe
having a good time at the peoples
nxponso when our present senator ,
13. J. Burkott , was voting for the
McCumber amendment to the tariff
bill , which put lumber on the free
list. Senator Brown snowed by the
Congressional Record and the roll
calls made in the senate that Sena
tor Burkott had voted with LaFol-
letto , Brlstow , Cummins and Dolllvo
on all of the amendments that wore
offered by the progressives to the
tariff bill , while the same was under
consideration. That when Burkott
was voting for the amendment of
fered by McCumbor putting lumdor
on the free list , Congressman Hitch
cock , who is now a candidate for
aonator , was in Kuropo upending a
salarypaid him by the people to rep
resent them in congress. Plorco
call.

More or Less Personal.
Word conies from one county pre
cinct in eastern Nebraska that out
oi ninety eight democratic voters
there is at least thirty-six have de
clared their intention of supporting
Mr. Aldrich. The defection is so
general that the Dahlman campaign
ers have started a series of stories
in which they try to show that Mr.
Aldrlch "drinks more booze than
Jim. " State Journal.

says"If the legislature passes a

will use my ability to have such a bill

It is no longer a question as to
which party shall controll. It
la "we or dry" pure and simple. I

the men upon whom appetite has

Two brief years of office is No
thing when compared with the start

at the poll in November , I appeal
1 to you to stand fast for the beauti
ful thing we so love , home , I hear
enough of those canting cowardly
sayings , if you come out in strong
terms we will defeat you , Now , all
I have to say is , furnish me the
words that are stronger and I will
use them over my own signature , if
you think for one minute that I
fear you Fire and Fall Back ; I know
what I am talking about and what
I am writing about , I am striving to
write as a man not a candidate for
office , there are many , who use liqu
or , but in the majority of such cases
when the person permits right rea
son to direct the machinery of the
head , will say liquor must bo con
trolled and that county option is the
best method of controlling it. If
you are not a victim of appetite , if
you are not one having a home that
has been devastated by the system ,
just think of the many whom you
may aid by casting a vote for Aid-
rich and county option. If Mr.
Aldrich was as Dahlman is , and Mr.
Dahlman as Aldrich is , I would then
be for Dahlman and the homo , but
as the men now stand , , by their de
clared words , there is no good reas
on for Mr. Dahlman receiving any
support in Custer county , nor in the
state of Nebraska. I have not dis
cussed the financial matters connect
ed with the question , crime , and
criminals , jails , poorhouses , etc. ,
those things would require too much
space. The one gem above all else
upon which the mind , soul , heart an
llfo , leans and lives , should call us
out , and that is home.
Respectfully ,
N. T. GADD.
