Luna > ark entrance fee is ten cents , and it is full of attractions from end to end ; the building's arc without exception fanciful in lesign and painted white. There a a beautiful open court or court of honor in the center of the lark and a small kite with grow ing1 shrubs all around it and a fence made semi circle against seuii circle with ornamental col umns where they are joined. A platform is over one end of the lake and is used as a vaudeville stage. The entire program was free to all ; then there were all sorts of funny things to enter tain the people , and' were free. A large beautiful dancing pavil- lion was very popular. All the buildings contained some sort of an entertainment and of course were not free. They were liter- all } ' covered from top to bottom with electric incadesceut bulbs , as were all the columns and arches and a square tower , on all sides had vari-colored designs like in a kalidoscope that were continually changing as though urned by an invisible hand. Everything sparkled with light , and we tarried until quite late , enjoying the beauty of the scene. We walked back to Brighton Beach , add all along the waj it was packed with autos occupied by people who were enjoying what little sea breeze there was I could not but wonder where all the people came from , and how they lived , and how nice it was that they were able to get away from the heat of the city and business and spend the day in the midst of such pleasant sur roundings ; fathers , mothers sisters and brothers , sweethearts and lovers all were there. At the breakfast table , after much discussion , wo decided to spend the day sight seeing in i New York , and the "jay" ride , as it is often called , was selected as the beat means to accomplish the desired end. It was only a few blocks walk to Kiverside Drive , where we saw the man sion of the multi-millionaire Schawb , standing in the center of an entire block , fenced in by a brick wall , with the blinds or shades in hospitality lowered and the family gone. We then took a double decker automobile , as cended the spiral stair steps to the top , where we had a fine view all the way down town to Washington Square. From there we took a car to Castle Garden , where we spent two hours seeing everything to be seen , including the aquarium. We returned to Mif > Srninrp in ( imp fr r llin ntiln for up Kifth Avenm along the east side of Central Park , past he palatial homos of the Rock efeller's , Vanderbilts and Carne gie's , now deserted , past the Cathedral of St. John the Devine , out to One Hundred and Fifty Fifth street. Here we Had 15 minutes to wait. We put in the time at a booth , where lemonade and other things were sold. We each had three glasses of the lemonade ; I said it was good and very refreshing. A gentleman at one end of the booth said it was "lemonade made in the shade by an old bachelor , " Mrs. De Kraft said , "well if we may judge his looks by the taste , he must be handsome. " We all jol lied a bit between the glasses and bought old fashioned ginger cakes , wafers and chicklets. On the return we got off at the 66th SU entrance to the park and walked through to West 70th St. and were caught in a heavy shower. We spent some time in the park looking at the animals and only reached the Doctors in time for a late evening dinner. Every place I have been I notic- ed so many churches and houses covered with ivy , English 01 Japanese , 1 don't know which. I noticed too that the young men move things. All the double decker autos arc manned by young men. Saturday morn ing the Doctor took Irene around the block , as they call it , but in reality a twenty mile ride in his car. We certainly enjoy ed our brief visit to the utmost , notwithstanding the excessive heat. We spent a few hours in Philadelphia , the hot , hotter , hottest place imaginable. There were nine deaths that day and hundreds of prostrations. The dirt , dust and heat on the train was something fierce and we were glad to get back to York. The anniversary of our wed ding day we were all invited to 12 o'clock dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Eyster. It was a feast worthy of the Gods. In the afternoon Irene and I were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Pentz at St. Paul's Lutheran Sunday School picnic at Brook- side. I met so many old ac quaintances on the car going ut. As soon as we arrived on he grounds owned by the Street Railway company we were pre- ented with two free ice cream ickets. During the afternoon everybody received pea nuts , weet wafera and pretzels. A program of the events of the day was tacked against one of the pavillions. There were contests and races galore. Charlie Mar tin is all right as chairman of a committee to get up a banquet , but when it comes to races he can get pointers from Brookside. Fifty gallons of ice cream was used , beside all the other things It required five special cars to bring the Sunday school back to town. The people of ample means here have gone or are going away for the remainder of the summer , though this unusu ally long siege of hot weather has at last been broken.
