What Is
"Self preservation is the first law of nature , " answers
Johnny Jones.
Correct , Johnny. Go right up to the head of the class.
This law applies to a community as well as to an indi
vidual. Under the severe operation of this law a town that
does not toke eare of itself , that does not look after its own
interests first , that does not look out for Number One , soon
< * falls into a bad way.
! That's just as sure as shootin' . It's the law.
We must obey the law or take the consequences. Tf < :

Johnny Jones , who
knows the law , is a wise
lad , but how about his
papa and mamma ?
Do they obey the first
law as applied to the old homo place ? ] f they don't , Johnny
may have to apply the law to himself when ho grows up. Ho
may have to go to the city to make a living.
Let's all think it over. i

Ilolcoiiil ) Suit Was Dismissed.
The suit tiguiiisl Judge Silas
A. Holcomb , of Hrokcn 15ow ,
brought in the district court t. )
tocovcr $11.000 by Arthur C.
Wakcly , receiver of the National
Mutual Insurance company , was1
dismissed Monday morning on
the motion of the plaintiff and at
his costs. No service upon Judge
Holcomb was ever obtained in the
case in thai jurisdiction. The
suit was filed here in the expec
tation that service could be ob
tained when the judge came to
Lincoln to begin the contest over
the scat on the supreme bench to
which he was appointed by Gov.
Shalleubcrger. The declination
of the appointment by Judge
Ilolcomb removed any strong
probability of service being had
in this county.
The suit arose from an old con
troversy between Judge Ilolcomb
and the insurance company. At
one time Judge Ilolcomb was
general agent for the company in
several western states. After
the company failed , the receiver
sought to hold Judge Ilolcomb
liable as guarantor of the un
paid premiums on some of the
policies written in his territory
and the suit was to recover the
amount of these unpaid prem
iums. Lincoln Star.
