The work consisted of lectures , demonstrations and cov ering the relation of the food to the body , the use of the firelcss cooker , the serving of nutritious soups , preservation of fruits , can- 'ningof jellies , the ' nature of salads and desserts , the consider ation of the best methods to be persued for kitchen economy and the making and -judging1 of bread. In her work Miss Kauffman had what she co usidered a model kitchen ; she used Moores glass oven door range and the Chat ham firelcss cooker. The prisce for the best loaf of bread was given to Mrs. L. Mc Candlcss. The giving of the pme to Mrs. McCandlcss was at first contested on the ground that the loaf of bread exhibited by Mrs' . McCandlcss was baked by Mrs. A. E. Gandy. The judges , however , decided that the com i- tions of the contest , as announc ed , did not prohibit any one ex- libiting some one else's bread ud consequently the awarding of the prixe to Mrs. McCandless was allowed to stand. Mrs. Gco. i. Mair teak second prize and Mrs. F. II. Smith was awarded bird premium. In the bread judging contest Mrs. J. B. Osborn took first , Mrs. George Graves second , and Miss Kate Remsburg third.
