Miss Esther Loun is visiting at Mr. Knapp's this week. Miss Jennie Edwards visited at Mr. Ingram's Sunday. Bert , Pearl and Charlie Waters visited at Ingrain's Sunday. Miss Bushong visited with Misses Hazel and Bertha Wil- kins. kins.Miss Miss Lura Hill visited with Blanche Milligan Sunday after- aoon. Miss Maude Moore visited with her sister , Mrs. E. Woods , of Dale , Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards visited at Fred Embree's Satur day and Sunday. There was a surprise party at Mr. Ingram's last Friday even ing. About thirty of the jolliest people living were present and a pleasant evenin'g was spent in various games. All report a fine time. There was a surprise party at James Milligan's Thursday even ing , in honor of Miss Blanche , it being her eighteenth birthday. About twenty were present and an exquisite time was had by all until a late hour when the happy gathering departed for their re spective homes. 8DNNY DELL. Ray Martin of Bethel Union spent Sunday with Leo Arthur. Jesse Triplett of Dutchman Valley spent Sunday at J. T. Bertaer'a. A. J. Boyle * hauled d load of h ga to Broken BJW for K. A fifanttr last Friday. Verna Holeomb of Broken BOTT spent Saturday night and Sun day at J T. Bortner's. H. M. Sullivan and son , Lynn , made a business trip to Hunter's ranch last Saturday. Kemember the Box Supper at the school house November 28. Everybody come , bring your friends , and have an enjoyable time. Since the quail law opened last Sunday we see a number of hunters around. Mr. Hunter and a few of his friends were hunting on the ranch Monday. CALLAWAY Mrs. James Oliver is visiting with her daughter Mrs. Fitzger ald in Cheyene Wyoming. B. F. Emphfield has opened a meat market in the Rusk build ing where Hollingsworth held first. J. P. Peterson is back again in his old position as Clerk for Louis Anderson selling farm im plements. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Ogden have moved back to Callaway from Hastings and will reside here in the future. Prof. Neale of Kearney State Normal preached in Evangelical Church last Sabbath morning , and in the evening gave the people ple an interesting lecture on the subject of "The Measure of Men- " Shostrou Blixt and son an nounce that they will buy and ship stock from Callaway. If they will keep out of the pool and pay what the stock is worth , the farmers of this section will soon learn to hunt them up when in town with tUuir fat hogs and cattle. Mr * . William Gieer of Forest Grove , Oregon , the mother of George Grccr , who left with his family week before last to see her of which mention was made last week , has since died. Her son reached her home before her death. Mrs. Greer formerly re sided at Callaway. 0 H. H. Andrews , W. Schernin- ger of Callaway , and C. S. Wai- dron and E. S. Woodcuff south west of Callaway were at the Bow before the board of Super visors in the interest of certain roads leading to this town. The petitions all of said roads were granted. A new business enterprise will soon be opened up in Callaway. H. W. Brodham and J. B. Furg- son will put in a stock of marble , and conduct the trade under the name "The Square Deal Marble Works. " While tomb atones are the last piece of furniture one buys , yet they are purchased and we don't see why Callaway is not as good a place as any for this trade. - BETHEL UNION. Earl Heaps visited at home Sunday. Jesse Triplett spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Holcomb. C. G. Heapfi went to Kansas City , Monday where he will mar ket cattle. H. M. Piuckuey made our school a pleasant call "Wednes day of last week. John Wootera Carl and b'loyd Holcomb marketed hogs at Ber- wyn Friday. Mr. and Mrs. D. K. Beezly visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Win. Conrad. Mr. and Mrs. Authur Scott visited with the latter's uncle , Mr. John Wootera. The pupili of Snake Run are expecting and preparing ; for ex aminations to be given the last of this week. Pearl Martin of Broken Bow , visited at home SundayJus t one week more and Pearl will be with us agaiu. Maggie Heaps visited Satur day Sunday with her parents. She reports school teaching as very plcasunt work. At this writing little Fay Wooters is quite sick. Dr. Dodd was called twice Sunday. We hope for her speedy recov ery. ery.Mrs. Mrs. Amanda Holcomb , Grand ma Vickers , and Mrs. Dysa Wal lace spent a day at the home of Mrs. C. G. Heaps Fri day.The The pupils of Snake Run school and the young folks of the neighborhood are setting about preparing for the Christmas en tertainment to be given at the Church Christmas Eve. A sup per for the purpose of obtaining funds for the childrens treat will be announced latter. CUSTER COLLEGE NEWS. Esther Edmunds entered the College last Friday. Roy Daggett of Merna entered the College Monday morning. Miss Outzen of Ausley was called home Tuesday by the sick ness of her mother. Gertrude Shafer accompanied by Jessie Hays went to Wester- ville Friday afternoon where they expect to spend Saturday and Sunday with their parents. Sadie Thurtnan of the Normal Department has quit the College and gone to teaching. Miss Thurrnan is a thorough student and will make a good teacher. A meeting was called at the college Monday afternoon for the purpose of setting the date for tne giand social to be given by the boys. The social will be given just before Christmas. Special Correspondence. Clifford Lomax was down last Saturday to visit with James Lomax and take in the Kansas foot ball game. The Agricultural school will send a stock judging team to the international stock show. The team will start on Monday , No vember 23d , and will spend a week visiting some of the most important farms in the middle west. Carl Jeffords of Broken Bow is one of the six men who will represent the University in the judging contest. Business Announcement. I beg to state that I have sold to C. H. and A. W. Aolcomb , my stock of books , stationary , school supplies and small musical goods with the intention of devoting- all in- time to the piano and organ business. In future the business will con tinue in the same building and in the same way except that the two lines will be represented separately. By this method wo hope to strengthen both depart ments so as to successfully meet any and all competition and more fully merit the patronage of the buying public. Next week will close the second term of this year's school in the city. The regular term test will be given in all of the classes. There will bo no school in the city on Thursday and Friday of next week on account of Thanks giving. A Thanksgiving program will be given in all rooms of the city public schools to-morrow.
