I Prom the Callawav Oneen.
: 'rhe writer su cceded in visit-
illg the Broltcn Bow fair last li'ri- .
: ( lay , and was well plcascd with the I .
entcrtainment. We have visited
this fair a number of times , but I.
must say that we were better
, pleased with the entertainment
this year than ever before. The
racing program was excellent ,
and the balloon ascension was
the very bcst we havc ever seen.
'rhe sock and agricultural exhibits -
hibits were excellent. One thing
in particular which took our eyes
: was the cxhibt of Duroc Jerseys
by Judgc Heese. 'Ve do not just
remember the number of pens his
herd occupied , but we do remem-
bcr that thcre was but one second
premium awarded him while the
balance of the pens wcre labeled
, with first premium tags. Mr.
: Reese certainly has some of the
: finest Durocs we have seen , and
to say he i pro d of them is not I
half exprcssing it. \ I

: From the Callaway Queen.
For the past fifteen years the
i editor of the Custer County Beacon -
: con has been howling against the
: third term , and whcn JoeJArmour
, was elected county judge the
third timc , Mr. . Beal had seven
kinds of fits , yet when Charley
Richardson receivcd the nomination - .
. tion for sheriff for the third time ,
Editor Beal swalJows the big
lump , hair and all , pla.ces
Richardson's name on the Hettet ,
and dubs it "our Hcket. " Editor

'J'hose Who Attcnded Were Satisficd
I.'rom Anselmo Enlerprlse.
The county fair is once more a
thing of the past and all who
, attended are satisfied that the
people of Broken Bow did all in
their power to show them an
enjoyn.ble time. It being exceedingly -
ingly hot and dusty made it dis-
I agreeable at times but the fair
association kept the street sprink-
I , ler going night and day thus
making it more agreeable than
it would otherwise have been.
The races and the other attractions -
tions were well carried off , there
being the best bunch of horses
ever put on the Broken Bow traclt.
Kcnnedy will Have a "Walk-away"
Fromlhe Ansley Chronicle.
Horace Kennedy , the republican -
can nominee for sheriff , was in
Ansley Monday getting acquainted -
ed with the voters. Mr. Kennedy
has a strong following here regardless -
gardless of party. We h : ve met
, a number who have been strong
. supporters of Sheriff H.ichardson
for the past four years , who are
now working for the election of
Mr. Kennedy. It begins to look
. like he would have a "walk-away. "
Last but Not Least.
Each division of the brewery
workers ( in the Labor Day
parade'carried a banner that explained -
plained their connection with
the work. Here they are :

What Tltcy Would Likc.
Nothing would tickle the democrats -
mocrats so much as to have the
republicans revise th tariff at
the coming session of congress ,
but republicans ha\'o been caught
napping in that way once or
twice and they wil1l1ot be caughf
in the same way anothcr time.
'rite dcmocratic party , two or
three yeats prior to 1892 , malle
strenuous campaigns fo the
revision of the cxisting tariff act
on the lines of what that party
was pleased to denominate
"tariff reform. " In October of
1890 the McKinley 1Jill was
enacted and went upon the
statute books. ' 1'hat was only a
little more than a year before the
presidential campaign of 1892
WdS opened , and the democratics
attacked the tariIT act in the
most mendacious way. 'l'lte
falsehoods that were told about
the operations of the act would
make Ananias surrender his
leadership as the champion liar
of all history and retirc in con-
fusion. In the presidential campaign -
paign of 1892 democratic workers ,
disguised as peddlers selling
various kinds of merchandise and
produce , went about throug-h
nearly every congressional district -
trict in the northern states ,
hawking their war s at enormous
prices and claiming that the
McKiuley bill had causcd a grcat
increase . in the cost of everthing.
A y.ery large number of people
througHout the country believed
these democratic workers , bc-
came incensed at the republican
party ath voted the democratic
ticket. The rC3u1t was the defeat -
feat of enough republtcan congressmen -
gressmen to malte that bocly
democra tic aud secu re t he election
of Grover Cleveland.
Republicans Come Out.
The republican primary in
Broken Bow township , for the
purpose of nominating township
officers and the transaction of
other busllles3 should it be deemed -
ed necessary , will be held at the
court room in the Custer county
court house , in Brol < en Bow ,
Nebraska , on Saturday , OctQbcr
5th , 1907 , at 2 o'clock p. m.
Every republican should make a
special effort to be preseJt.
