The rest of the country will watch the experiment of Georgia with its public utilities commi - sion. It is the most radical ever enacted. The commission will have the power to regulate the. rates on railroads , street railways and all transportation companies , including express , telegraph and telephone companies , all ligh t and power con panies , docks and wharves , terminals and stations. Its acts are to have the same force as legislative measures. The commission is also given authority of courts in that it may I impose fines for violation .of its own rulings. It is even claimed the federal courts cannot suspend the ord rs of the commission by , injunction , The law is wider in ! scope than the New York bill. . I - - - - { When the lamentations last spring over the tardy weather \ were loudest the Ihu'UDLICAN endeavored - deavored to bring cheer and comfort - fort to the farmers with the statement that nature always \ . provided a full season for the i growth and developmcnt of crops. f Nature has certainly made good this year. The crop was slow in starting , but lhe growth was so remarkably rapid that its maturity - ity will be but little later , if any , than in average years. The man who has { , inned his faith in the soil has had his reward. _ . . . . 'fhe tendency of human nature to shift the responsibilitv onto somcone else is shown"to a marked degree in the howl of the Wall strect crowd-now reaping the whirlwind for the wind they have sown. Instead of assuming - ing the responsibility for the disasters following their own misdeeds they continue to blame it on the Roosevelt adminis- tration. - - - . . . . - Wall street continues to regard itsel with extreme seriousness - ness in respect to its inl1uence on the comerdal life of the nation. While its flurries at d excitements undoubtedly influence new enterprises to a large degree , the time has long- since passed when its colies make all the rest of the country double up in pain. Everyone can't be a philanthropist - pist , but all art > to a certain d gree. Everything that helps the individual should be b ne- ficial to the public in a general way. It is difficult for a man to work his ownself interest with. out incidentally aiding th. . : ; public. It is reported that the primar ) . cost two dollars per vote in Kno" county. Huhl that's easy wher. compared to the price U. S , Senator \\'m. H. Clark , of Mont. ! paid for 'em. Tew tousan' pel wus de l est he tawt uv. - 'Teachers Wanted. Thcre is a shortage of teacher in almost every part of Nebraska Custer County will b in need 0 fifty more teachers than it nO\1 has. This condition is largel1 . " the resul t , of the new law wlllc1 requires' everyone who has no taught to receive Normal train ing. After After September 1 , 1907 , nl teacher's certificate will be issuee to beginning teachers who have not had 'normal training. 'l'hi mean better schools and large salaries. Custer College make a specialty of fitting teachers fo first , second and third gradl certificates. There has , al o been a law passed prohibiting al who have not a 10th grad4 education , or , its equivalent from entering the State Norma Schools of Nebraska. Custer College can equip YOl for the active duties of tIt I school room in less time than i' ' possible in other schools. Fal term b gins September 16. " 14i1st Sunday was the day set to go and they went-Agent McGraw , Dr. Pennington , . Lester Corlett and James Pennington. Arriving in Omaha Monday morning they visited the garage where only one Maxwell w s left , but a car load expected in a few days. However , the one was duly warmed up and after tour- ing' Omaha for the space of an hour Dr. Pennington informed the general in command that he had sold a machine and possession - sion was given at once. At 3 o'clock Monday afternoon the party left Omaha for home in the "bilious" and at snpper time they had reached Duncan , a distance of 101 miles. Here they put up for the night. starting again at 8:30 : a. m" 'ruesday , reaching Broken Bow at 8:30 : that evening having covered the distance of 150 miles that day. Not a hitch nor kick was made by the auto during the trip a.nd only six gallons of gasoline con- sumed. The doctor is more than well pleased with his purchase and , having experimented with several autos , is fully satisfied that for size and price the Maxwell has no equal. . Prices for. Fair Weel ( .
