Residents of the _ Westerville district are becoming greatly in- tere8ted in the building of the line from Brokcn Bow to Lonp City and , although there was a large atlendance at the meeting held at Westerville two weeks ago , quite a number wcre not present who now wish they had been in order to hear the proposi- tion. That these may havc an opportunity to become acquainted with the project , and also for the purpose of taking subscriptions , another meeting will be held at Westerville on Saturday of this week , May 4th , at 1 o'clock. Although but a few weeks have elapsed since the Broken Bow and Weatern railway project was made known residents along the proposed line have rallied to its support and are willing-with but few acceptions-to go their limit to assist in its construction , so that it is an almost settled fact the road will be built and in operation before January 1st of next year. , The meetiug at the Knight school house , in M - vrlle precinct ; last Friday aftern-oon , was at- t nded by more than fifty farmers residing in that vicini tv and great interest in the road was manifest to the extent that nearly . . . . - - - - - - - T T . , , . _ . . , . . . ( ConlrlbUleI1. ) The wedding of Miss Mary Ann I dmunds , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Edmunds , to Mr. leo Duffield took plce at noon , Wednesday , April 1" 1907 , at the home of the bride's parents , 8 milcs north of Merna. 'rhe bride wore a beautiful ' gown of white silk mull , trim. mcd in lace and braid. 1iss Sarah Edmunds , a sister ot the bride , was bridesmaid. She was gowned in white silk mull. Mr. Quinton Fodge , of Merna , was best man. The groom and be8t man wore the conventional black. Mrs. Clarence Reader played the wedding march. Rev. Brady , of Broken Bow , pronounced the words that joined thesc two together. After the ceremony all present partook of a bountiful dinner prepared by the bride and her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Duffield went to Merna the following day to the i home the groom had prepared , an they will be at home to their friends after May 1. 'rheir many friends wish them joy and prosperity through the journey of life. The Bridge Not Built as Bid For. \ Editor HUI'UBLICAN. Since there has been so much question regarding the new It'ourth avenue bridge and being in position to know wkat the requirements - quirements were , having submitted - mitted a bid for same , perhaps an explanation would not be out of place at this time , on behalf of the citizens of Broken Bow , ancI the Foundry and Structure works which I represent. Our plan called for a 40 foot road way and a 6 foot walk , 46 feet in a11 , said measurments being taken directly at right angles to the street line , wbereas the bridge now in place measures 46 feet in direction of creek , which is 35 degrees angle from street line , and when measured at right angles to street line gives only 26 feet inclusive of sidewalk. In other words the roadway is 21 feet wide , whq it should be 40 , and total wid th of bridge 26 feet instead of 46. Our bid for the two structurel , . . . . I . < to _ . - . . . . . - - . _ I ! J , ! . . - , In place , including all piling , planking and wings and 4 foot handrails , was $2360 , whereas the contract was awarded the Stan- danl people for $2l7f ) . 'l'he uight the job was let and con. tract C'lrawn up , all objection was raised to thc style of handrail we used , whereupon the council was 111formed that we would give them any style of handrail they wished and would put in separate - ate foot and t am bridges , if they 'so desired. Our people can 1 readity realize what this one item should have meant , as the sidewalk would then have been in direct line with the remainder of walk-where it rightly be- longs-and still the bridge proper - per should have been in the centre of the street. This is a matter which has been discussed much Slnce tb'e completion of bridge ! ! and one which is of interest to the taxpayers - payers and the people in general , and for this reason it has been seemed essential that the fmts : be made known.
