nyellues from Alaska have been
more tban $10,000,000 , and the
federal governmcnt is $1,500,000

Alaska has produced more than
$100,000,000 worth of gold , ancI
the fur output since 1870 has
been $80,348.762. 'l'here arc
millions of acres of lands available -
able for settlement , and farming
will be the principal industry as
soon as hetter transportation
facilities are secured. It has
becn demonstrated that all sorts
of vegelable and thc hardier
rains will grow in the Northland -
land , while the inland valleys are
excellently adapted to stock
raising.
'l'he exposi tion of 1909 bas
been excellently started b.y the
subscription by Seattle citirens
of $ ( ,50,000 worth of stock in the
enterprise. This subscription
was made in one da.y. No city
ever before raised so large an
amount for any 'purpo e' in so
short a time. 'l'he state of
Washington will appropriate
$1,000,000 for the fair , and the
federal government will be asked
to participate with the same
amount. State participation
will be on a large scale , and the
displays made by. the west.ern
commonwealths will be especially -
ly elaborate and interesting.
'l'he exposition site has been
chosen. It embraces 250 acres
of the University of Washington
campus , and is picturesquely
si tuated on the shore of Lake
Washington , within the city
limits , and distant 20 minutes by
street car from the business
