states that they arc having very
dry weather there and that' corn
is only about half crop and that
oats are very light.
'rhe weather for the fair this
wcek is all that could be asked
and the people are g-enerally
taking advantage of the opportunity -

week visiting with the families

Blaine Lanterman filed homestead -

returned a few days ago from a
trip to Hot Springs , S. D. , where
they went to see the sights and
enjoy a recreation. 'l'hey re-
turncd by the way of Iqmball
where they have a section of
lan . While there they visited
with the family of Thos. Wilkinson -
son , fonner residents of Broken
How and pioneer settlers of the
county , having homesteaded the
site on which Ansley is located.
They report that Mr. Wilkinson
is well situated and that hc is
engaged extensively ill stock
raising and wool growing. He
numbers his sheep by the thous-
andscattle by the hundreds. He
has three stock ranches. Mr.
Edwards said he traveled sixteen
miles over enc of his ranches

fair. Parties that favor that
breed of hogs need go no farther
to find the best individuals the
state affords.

Bow are pretty much desertcd
this week and it's "playing
hookey' " in most instances. 'l'he
county fair is more of an attraction -
tion than study.ing and reciting
lessons.

abouts and have quite a number
of farms listed with them for
sale.
'l'hese are the days of big ears
of corn. Up to date the largest
one brought to this office was
raised on the farm of A. ' 1' . Sims ,
five miles south of town , by his
son , E. W. Sims. All the specimens -
mens brought in were fine , but
one is a whop1Jcr. It is estimated -
mated tlle yiclCl will be about
sixty bushels per acrc.

Rev. John D. Brady , of Syra-
cause , has accepted a call to the
pastorate of the Baptist church.
He arrived this evening with his
family , to assume charge. He
comes highlY recommended. He
: is a native o.f Nebraslm , receivcd
his education at the State Univer-
: sity. He was a member of the
First Nebraska rcgimcnt in the
Philipines and after he completed -
. pleted his studies at the University -
versity spent eight months in the
Holy land.
