If you desire a seat ouside "nigger heaven" at the Opera house next 'l hursday night to witness the producti n of "Uncle Sam's Consul" you should not delay in having it reserved at either Baisch's or Groat's store. Seats are being talen rapidly. J Miss , Jennie Geeseman , of Ansley , assumed the duties of cleric in the Brolien Bow post- office last Monday. Of her the Ansley Chroncile says : "l\Iiss Geeseman is a competent young lady and has had several years -experience in the Ansley post. office. " : Rev. A. J. McCormick , ' upon whom an operation for appendicitis , was performed last Sunday , was very low Tuesday , but there was a change in his condition for the : better that night and he is now : reported as "doing as well as. . could be expected under the circu mstances.tI If you are not ready to come to the big Custer county fair , . better hump yourself and get ready 'cause it will be doin'in less than two weeks and vour friends are sure coming , even if they bust the whime-trees , to see the ostrich beat a hess in a trotting race. Hobert Frey , who mysterionsly disappeared at a railroad wreck I at Yuma , Colorado , the latter part of last 'weelc , was found near the wreck , unhurt. Mr. It'rey was engineer on the train anti when the collision came , instead of being buried under the wreck as was at first thought , he jumped and escaped to a place of safety. His brother , Will , of this vicinity was telegraphed and went at once to the scene , but I when he arrived found Hobert badly scareel but not hurt. . . Kendrix Kimball , of Ausley , visited a few days last week with his brother , Harry , the Norlh side pictnre frame man. II. B. Iszard went to Havenna Monday and arranged for the production - duction of "Uncle Sam's Cousul" by the Amaranth Dramatic Stocle Co. , in that city next ' 1'uesday night. 'l'he speed program at the county fair will be the best evcr. 'l'he dates are so late that other fairs have uearlv all been held and as a result' there- will be more eutries in the races than ever before. This is now assured and authoritatively stated , the statement being based upon the fact that more entries have already been made in the speed class than at any fair ever held in the county. At the tneeting of the city council last night Marshal Catnon tendered his reisgnation , which was accepted and there is naturally much surmising as to who wili be named to wear the star. here seems to be a desire on the part of business 111n ( ; that P. M. 'l'owsley , the former marshal , be appointed , as he was efficient and a terror to wrong- doers. as he performed the duties as he took oath to do , enforcing the laws as they are writ. Attempted to Break Jail. George Gage , charged with stealing a horse from D. J. Jones , 10 miles south of Callaway , attempted - tempted to gain liberty last Sunday - day night and would perhaps have succeeded the following night but for the watchfulness and disco\'ery of the attempt by Hollie ' 1'owsley , t1 e jailor. At present the jail is crowded with pnsoners a wai ting trial and Gage was put in what is known as the crazy room. Monday morning Jailer Towsley not iced a piece of brick uuder the bunk and forthwith began an examination - tion which resulted in finding a hole through the brick wall almost large enough for the prisoner to crawl through. He also found a poker with which Gage had punched out the mortar a'n.d dis. lodged the brick. He claims it was not his work , but lest he be tempted to finish the job commenced - menced by someone else he has been placed in shackles and chained to the bunk. M. B. A. Meeting. All members of the M. B. A. are urged to attcnd the regular mceting of the lodge next Friday. At this meeting complete arrangements - rangements for the district con- vcntion and the banquet to be given in connection therewith will be reported. ' 1'he committee has secured the use of the Masonic - sonic banquet hall , which will be ready for use at that time It is necessary for all who deqire to participate on that occasion to be at the meeting Fridav ni ht. No member can afford t miss it. Fried Chicltcn Supper. ' 1'he Royal Highlanders have arranged for a fried chicken supper - per , in conuection with their regular meeting next 'l'uesd ay night at the 1. O. O. F. hall. All members who want to have a good time will not fail to be prescnt. A Serious Prairie Fire. On Wednesday of last week from some cause a fire was started - ed in the pasture of l eese & Morehousc , eight miles west of the citv , and burned up a stack of hay : Among the neighbors that went to hclp subdue the fire was 1\lr. Hoagaboon. In the meantime his team ranaway , stopping at the stacie of h lY that \'v'as hurning and one of the hors' es had its cyes burned out before the tcam con1c1 be gotten away. It is thought the fire originated by hunters. Band Concert. 'l'he band will g'c a concert ' 1 the city park tomorrow ( l.'ri- day ) night , beginning at about S o'clock. Last li'ritlay morning the separator of a threshing machine belonging to Milt li'ox was burned at thc residence of Charles Coulter , on the west table. 'l'lte machinc had been takcn therc the evening previous and left in the road over night.
