The county board met Monday
in adjourned session. The board
elected Jules Haumont , the
county assessor , to meet with the
state board , Saturday , to look
after the county lev ) ' .
The masons completed their
work on the Watt's store building -
ing . Monday. 'rhe carpenters
work will be pushed along- now
to completIOn. H. N. Norcott
has charge of the work.
G. O. Joyner and wife went to
Ansemo ] yesterday to attend the
Old Settler's pIcnic. Mrs. Joyner
will go from there to Ortello
where she will visit with her
parents for a week or two.
C. C. Gardner , formerly of
Sargent , wIle has been in business -
ness at Kirksville , Mo. , for the
past four years is visiting in the
county with his old time friends.
He and Mrs. Gardner arrived at
Sargent yesterday.

on free delivery mail routes to
know that Postmastcr General
Cartelyou has issued an order ,
to go into effect August ] st ,
under which patrons on these
routes will be permitted to construct -
struct their own boxes , provided
that in so doing they ' conform to
the requirements of the department -
ment as to' . ize , durability , safety
and protection from the inclemency -
ency of the weather.
A number-between thirty and
forty-of n.ew houses are now in
course of construction in Broken
Bow and before the building
season closes , no less than a
hundred will have been erected
this year. Still there will not be
enough to supply the demand ,

Joushua Cole hts commenced
the erection of a new dwelling
house in the cast part of the city.
He has sold his old house to
W. II. Concannon who will move
it to a lot that he has purchased
of Amos Noble , just cast of Mr.
Noble's residence.
'I' . C. McKee was a social calll r I
at this office Saturday. Mr.
McKee has been teaching school
in Iowa for a number of years.
He has engaged the schoel in the
Zackery district on the west
table. In years past he taught
in the district in Iowa , in which
the late Pcter Mohat of thiR place
used to live. He hoarded with
the Mohat family.
1. N. Pershall informs us that
the item last week in reference
to his corn being damaged one
half b ) ' the hail was a mistake.
'l'he hail only struck one corner
of the field , about twelve acres ,
and that the damage to that was
\'er ) ' slight , the blades were only
slightly cut. He has 90 acres of
corn and the prospects are very
line for a good crop.

sentiment and the composition
