Obituary. I
Wm. B. Athey was born in
\ \ hitley count ) . , Incl. , Jan. 14 ,
1854. He was the second son in
a family of nine childrcn ,
When he was 13 years of age
he moved with his parents to
Jasper county , Ind. , where be
grew to manhood. At the age
of 24 be was united in marriage
to Sarah A. Miller. ' 1'0 this
union was born 6 sons and I
daughter , all of whom are still
li ving , exce1 > t Howard , the second
son , who preceded him into the
glory of the other world only
eight days. In the fall of 1882
he moved with his family , then
consisting of a wife and two
children , to Custer county , Nebraska -
braska , and located near fates
whcre hc resided until 18 % at
which time in order to sccure
bctter school pri vilegcs , he moved
to Brol < cn Bow wherc he was still
living at the time of his death ,
June 11 , 1906 ,
In 1879 he united with the
Methodist Episcopal church and
has since becn a faithful supporter -
er of that church.
He was a strong advocate of
temperance , always casting his
in influence on thc side of right.
In his home he was kind and
loving yet llemancling obediencc ,
and al ways anxious to render
assistance whcn he thought it
benefici al.
He was a man of strong constitution -
tution and his final illncss was
brief.
On Wcdnesday morning , in his
usual good health , he had gone
to Gates , to setll the affairs of
his son Howard and while there
felt the svmptoms of the same
disease that had takcn Howard ,
comng : upon him. He hastencd
home realizing his time here
was short and gavc his family
his tinal instructions. lIe lost
consciousness before 11 o'clock
Thursday from which he partially
rallied on Saturday , only to again
sinl ( into a deep stupor in which
state he remained until Monday
evening , peacefully passing away
with the last rays of the sun.
Besides his own familv he
leaves a falher , three brothers ,
and two sisters to mourn his loss.

our loss is his gain. -x
