Corn planting and the best time to plant is the topic most talked about these days. We experienced a few chilly days the pas week but we do not look to see such weather continue as the time of year has arrived for warm weather to be here to remain. 'Some of our farmers arc farming - ing quite largely this year handling - ling without the assistance of anyone as much as 80 acres of corn and 40 acres of small grain and besides ploughing all their ground , which is already for the planter. We had several good rains last week which wet up the ground in good shape which was needed for the grass and small grain. Several have planted or arc planting their corn. While it is time to have the corn in the ground , the earth is not warm enough to put in corn , and in case of cold and rainy weather the seed would rot. I Sunday School was organized at the Knight school house last Sunday with Benjamin Knight as superintendent and Mrs. l oy Cochran organist , and 26 mem- bers. 'L'here has been considerable fixing up of buildings , yards , trees , in fact , much needed work in that direction , whicn enhances the appearance very much. Our small grain is looldng re- marl < ably wetl and is farther advanced - vanced now than the same time last year and with fayorable weather a good crop may be ex- pected. I The. pastures are now affording plenty of feed for the stock which is much needed , for many had run out ofav as our farmers are getting < tUlte- a number of head , hence the shortage of feed. - - - - - - Georgetown Rotter Mill Burn. The Georgetown Rotler Mills were burned to the ground last l'lmrsday morning. About 8:30 : : o'clock the mill caught fire and : in a half hour the mill was burn- I ed to the ground. There were I several men present when the fire t was discovered but they were un- t able to save any of the contents. i About 300 sacks of flour , 300 I bushels of corn , a large quantity of bran , shorts and some harness were stored in the mitI at the ; ti me. : The fire is thought. to have f , f . . . The run of cattle all last week continued very fair. Early in the week the trade was slow and weak with a little decline , but the close was strong and fully as good as the week before , on all classes of killing steers. Supplies - plies today at all points are moderate and the general 'Steer trade is steady. The top has held around $5.35 at this point , with very good cattle selling at $4.90 to $5.25 ; fair kinds $4.60 and $4.90. ' 1'he butcher stock trade has changed but little during - ing the past week and with a steady to strong market today , verthing is selling re adily at recent - cent prices. Good to choice cows and heifers are selling at $4.00 to $4.60 : fair to good kinds $3.25 to $3.90 ; canners and cutters $2 to $3. There has been a general strengthening 111 stoc1 < ers and feeders during the past week , heavy feeding steers receiving an advance of 25 cents. while light and medium stock steers are fight at 40 cents higher. Good to choice heavy steers are selling at S4.50 and S4.75 ; fair to good $4.25 and $4.50 ; good to choice stockers $4.50 and S4.85 ; fair to good $4.00 to S4.50. , There was a very noticeable weakness in the hog trade last week , a general fatling off in values , and closing prices on a steady basis today as compared with the close last week arc 15 cents lower than a week ago. We belie\'e where hogs are finished - ed and ready to send in it is a pretty good idea to let them come along , as present prices are quite profitable.rl'he bulk sold today at $6.10 and S6.15 with top at $ & .20.
