C. G.Oieman of the the Rosedale
Nursery at Fremont is in the city with
the \ ' ew of interesting the people in a
vegetable garden anll grecn house similar I
to the Fremont plant. where from $ i5.- .
000 to $ fOOOOO , worth of husiness is done
annually. 1\11' . Nieman has visitell several -
al towns in the state and one in Wyoming -
ing , looking for It location. This town
anll the one in Wyoming me the only
two points that he made known the 9h-
jcct of his visit.
He informs that if he can have sufficient -
ficient backing hcre to assure the hearty
cooperation of the community , he wil !
put in a stcam plant IUHl cover about
100,000 feet with lass. A plant of those
dimensions would of neccsslty employ a
large amount of labor and require the
disbursemen t of n large ItmOlmt of money
in this \'icinity annually. Further than
that it would elHtble the people of Broken
Bow to ha\'e vcgetables in the winter
season at about one fourth the cost that
we are now compelled to pay.
1\1r. . Nieman would require about five
acres of land , conveniently located to the
town in addition to his grcen house
which would be located cOI1\'eliently in I
thc cit\ , .
She lel the public manifest a sufficient
interest , 1\11' . Nieman will ship in his I
material this winter and have the plant in
operation by March I , )906.

Broken Bow and the Miuouri Pacific ,
There hils always hccn a desire of the
people of Droken Dow ! lnd conlin unity
to have the 1\Iissouri Pacific extelllis its
romi from Presser to Droken Dow. It is
now current1y reported the l\J. p , Railroad
contemplates extending it. ; line in thc
near future from Presser to Sh lton , a
town located in the south. cast corner of
Buffalo county. Shclton is on an air line
from Presser to Broken lIow. Shelton is
about twenty-fivc miles fmlll th South
Loup , where it passcs out of Custer coun-
ty. The route is an ideal one for n rail-
roa . After rcachinv the I.oup Vaey ] ] It
line could be projecte.l to Broken lIow
up the Box Wder with sma ] ] expense.
ltor a number of .rearA l'earney : : has becn
tr'ihg to have t . : e M.P. officials extend
the road from 1'rosscr to Kearney hut
without success. A a mattcr of fact
thcrc'is nothing for the company to gain
by dolnr. so. The 1\1. P. rJ.ilroad .is own.
c I by the samc company as the l' . 1' .
which main line pa.ises through Kearncy.
The only object in extending to Shelton
is to obtain an outlet to the north-wcst ,
as it intersects with the 0. 1' . at that
point. The Kearney Hub in discussing
the xtension of thc I. P. railroad from
Presser , which is only ten miles southeast -
east of Shelton says :
"Thosc \ \ ho have invcstigatcd the
matter are con\'lncet1 that it is not the
intention of the Missouri Pacific to build
to Kearney , There are many reasons
for believing this to be true , one of the
principle oncs being that officers of the
cOUlpany have on . . .ariolB occasions stated -
ed to those intimatel } ' acqnainted with
thcm , that the contemplatecl line was
through Shelton aurl not throngh this
city. nch action upon 'he p'nt of the
Missouri Pacific would be disastrous to
Shelton. which of necessity depenlls altogether -
together upon local trade , anll would at
the same tnne be a black c'e to Kearney. "
Broken Bow and the country along the
route betwcen here anll Shelton are
greatly iu necII of a competin line of
railroad such as the Missouri Pacific
would furnish anel the RltI'UIHICAN de.
sires to urge the business men of IIroken
Dow to wake up to the AittHI ion and take
steps to secure this road. The Kearney
Hub further states that "there is a way
to pre\'enl the Missouri Pacific froUl
building from Presser to the north-west
and that' for I'earney : : to hulll1 a line
from Kearney to Presser to connect with
the 1\1. P. and it urg s that it be Ilone at
once before it is too late. "
I This would iudicate that the roall has
determined to Imild toward Brokcn lIow
anll that 'he anI ) ' hopes I\emne : ) ' has to
prevcnt it is to build a connecting linc
froUl l'earney : : to Prosser.
If this is is the real situation steps
shoulll be taken at once h ) ' the people of
Brokcn Dow , Deer Creek. Box Hiller anel
the South Ioup to encourage the officers
of the III. 1' , in their contemplated extension -
sion to the north-west. It is a matter
that shoulll be takcn up at once by the
lIusiness Men's ASiociation of the eit . .
The I1uh sa's furter that "thcre is hu'
smAll douht hut what the p1ans for the
lines ahove refcrreel to will be finall '
adopted within a very short time anel
Kearney's interests require that the city's
representativcs be heard hefore snch ac.
tion is taken. "
1\9 Broken 1I0w interest9 are cJual to
those of Kearncy the reasonin is equally
appliahlc to Drokcn Bow. 'rite situation
dcmanl1s prompt action. Will we wake
up to the liituation or shall we continue !
