Mr. Haddix went to Mason

More Abullt Coal.
In speaking of thc vein of coal
found by thc strect Bros. on
Ramsleys' placc south west of
this cit. ) ' , U. C. Street says that
the wcll is on the slope of a hill ,
about half way , sixty fect from
tbe top. 'l'his would indiate :
that further back into the hill
the vein might bc thic1 er and
would possibl } ' be in sufl cent

. 1'he loca liOD
half way up the hill would enable -
able one to tunnel into it. Mr.
Street sa's " the coal foun.1 . IS
about one"hUlHlrl'd feet abo\"e
water and about three inches
thick where struck.
lIe says that in ncarl } ' e\'er ) '
wcll they put down differcnt formations -
mations are found.
On the Bellis place ten miles
east of Broken Bow where they
put down a well last week , he
sa"s they went through sixteen
feet magnicia rock and fourteen . -
teen feet of solid sand rock.
One well they put down the
watcr was struclc on top of a rock
thcy could not penetrate.
When the Street Bros. were
puting down the well near the
north side school house > recenth'
for Mr. Wilson the ) ' struck a
opening' about nine feet below
the surface that let the rod
fall the length of its sclf. As no I
buildings were evcr there the
hole struck is doubtless a natural -
ural opeling or cave , which it
might be of 1I1terest to investi-
