To whom it may concern : I hareby announce my candidacy - dacy for the office of C'ounty sup- erlntendcnt of Custer county , subject to wlll of the republican convention. A. L. PXUHCIt. - . The mcmbers of the House are to b commended for passing thc elevator and telephone bills. 'l'he Missouri legislative did a good day's work when it elccted Maj. Wi11iam Warren to the . United States Senate. Senator Cady has added new laurals to himself in securing the p sage of the state board of transportation - portation bill in the scnatc. 'fhe Housc has au opportunity to redeem its credit , by passing the railroadcouulIoditybill which provilC ! for a cut of 10 per ccnt onfreig'ht rates. 'l'he bill should include express , Nebraska should be credi.tably represented at the Lewis & Clark exposition at Portland this season - on and the legislature would be justificd in appropriating the $15,000 leeter .over from the St. 1-4ouis exposition , ' ! 'hc interest the bridge lobby is taking against the bridge bill , itow pcnding iu the legislature ought to he sullicicnt to causc . every member of the legislature , not tied up with corporation interests - terests to vote for the passnge of t he bill. It is gratifying to see a Jargc majority of the republican papcr of the state fear1e sly maintain. ing the intercsts of the pcople in opposition to corporation control . , of the state legislature. It is so ditTercnt from the attitudc assum. cd by the populist papers whcn their party had control of the afi'airs of the state. Instead" criticising their lcgislators they either said nothing 'or complimen. t.cd them. It was that attitudt : of the populist press that dis. gusted the public and turned th ( political scales against them , Republicanism does not apposE corporations nor does it desire tc confisticate their property or pre' vent them from realizing a fa 1 renumeration for the capital ani labor employed. But republican' ism dcmands fair treatmcnt an < 1 justice , to all business interest ! and does not condone method ! imployed l > y one class that im poses on another. It is for thi principle the republican pres ! stands , almost as a unit in Ne braslm and they do not hesitat to criticise a member of thei : party that does not worlc on thesl lines.
