Oue amcndment suggested for
the new revenue law b ) ' the legislature -
islature is to require the de put ) '
assessors to make up their books
in the office of the county asse
sor. Probably many inequalitj s
and errors would be prevented in
this way that give more or less
trouble every year , but it would
be harel on the deputy ssessor ,
who has to depend upon his wife
to get his books in shape.

The amendment proposed by
Hepresentative Warner to provide -
vide for the reassessment of land
values this year in order to correct -
rect the over and uncler valuation
of last year is the proper thing.
Another provision of the bill is
that each year the assessor make
correct the land assessment
should justice require it. A further -
ther provision is that while the
land shall only be asscssed once
in four years , this will be in the
second year of the county aS3es-
sors term of office.
The Nebraska Farmer of Omaha

. The new apportionment bills
now pending before the legislature -
ture for redistricting the state
in'to legislative districts makes. . .
Gtlster count , . a representative.
district with two representatives.
This is a just requirement and
we hope it. may become a law. It
bas been fifteen years siuce the
sja.teVas redistricted and the
la provides for redistricting
every five years. Under the
present law Cu ter is associated
with Logan county , notwithstanding -
standing Custer's population has
been large enough for the past
tifteen years to have entitled it

There was a ti me when some
people who lived in the country
were ashamed to admit they were
farmers , and the young men and
women lcft the farms just as soon
as they could. That time is no
more. The farmer is king. He
is the man who II feeds them all. "
He is the man who Iknows what
it is to be independent. He has
become a business man , practicing
one of the most honorable of pro-
fessions. His sons and daughters -
ters now look forward to spending
their lives on the farm , in peace
and con tcn tmen t. 'fclephone
and rural free delivery have
brought the town to the farmer's
gates an l his independent position -
sition is the envy of thousands
of debt-riddcp , burden-bearing
dependent men who dwell in
towns.-Beatrice Express.
ID. P. Hoe secretary of the socialist -
ialist movement in this state who
hales from Omaha , held fourth
at the court house Monday night.
He had a difficult time in convincing -
vincing several of his audience
that moncy was a needless medium -
ium of exchange and that value
should be estimated by time instead -
stead of actual material worth ,
knowledge or demand. His
theory is that thc time of the man
who hoes in the g-arden is worth
as much as the lawyer , doctor or
teacher who spends years in preparation -
aration or the man who plow
ten acres of corn a day is worth
no more than the even ploding
fellow who goes over only half
the amouut. In other words if a
pair of shoes is worth one days
wllrk. it makes no difference what
kind of work or how efficient the
workman each .receives a check
for one day , which cnables him I
!
to draw a pair of shoes. Another I
phaze of thc socialist idca is that
all shall surrender the owner hip
of their land and property to the
government and ceased to be in-
dividual owners. 'l'hc. homes
that they have built and s vcd
for a life time shall no longer be
theirs but shared equally by tbe
profligate fellow Who never did
an honest days work in his life
or earned an honest dollar.
