readers that the corporations
made the rcvcnue law with a holc

about 50 per cent of their taxes
and hold the farmers for the full
amount. Had this been true why
did they furnish the campaign
fund to defeat the republican
party in thc last election ? Had
thc , republican legislature done
their work satisfactory to the
corporations would they have not
lent their assistance to leep
the rep\1blicans in power in the
the state ? 'l'he facts arc as soon
, ah the corporations saw they were

'l'he Callawaw 'rribunc iH endeavoring -
deavoring to build up Z1 circulation -
tion by advocating division. If
Uie voters of Custer county will
recall how utterly the 'l'ribune
man , R. E. Bregn , failed in his
last effort for county division , I
they will not break their necks
in their rush to get their names
011 his list to help along the
county division scheme. If we
remember corl'ect1) . the scheme
for county di \ ' siou failed the
last time it was submitted by
about 2,600'ote ! > . The majority
of the taxpayers have said time
and again by their votes that
they do not want the county di-
vid d , and a renewed agitation
of the question is calculated to
do harm and unsettle \'alues.
Everyone who does not believe it
for the best interests of the people -
ple of the county should refuse to
lend encouragement by contributing - I I
ing to the fund or signing a petition -
tion calling for a vote. No vote
can be ordered unless a majority
of a11 the voters of last election
petition that an election be called
for that purpose. Had the people -
ple never had an opportunity to
vote on the question the right by
petition should not be denied but
since they have so emphatically
expressed their opposition to it a
further agitation should not be
sanctioned or el1couraged by signing -
ing a petition.

ity the past week or ten days
has been unusually : good. Tbe
merchants were gellcra11y well

mands in large and small orders.
As far as we have been able to
learn , those who sto ked up for
the holiday trade have had a I
good run of business and well i
satisfied with the liberal patron-
age.
