Out at Kearney , this great champion of the farmcr and of anti-monopoly discusscd the in cpendent tcle. phonc com panics and said : "Pcrsonally , I bclieve that there should be but one telephone compan ' and that whcre two com panics operatc in enc city thcy cannot furnish satisfactory service. " T4et all of the farmers and business - ness mcn who are interestcd in independent 'phones take due note of the. gratuitous aid Mr. Bcrge gives to the telephone monopoly. -0- Every republican in Nebraska is urged to remember that only thc \'otes which get into the ballot - lot box are counted. If you are in favor of l ooseve1t and all that l ooscve1tism m ans to the country - try , the only practical way in which you can express your sentiments - ments is by going to thc polls and voting the straie-ht rcpubli- can ticlet. It is frequel t1y stated that national - tional issues are not iuvolved in the state campaign , but that is a sad mistake. How long has it bcen since the republicans carried - ried the legislature. but neglected - ed to vote for their candidate for governor ? As a consequence , whcn Senator Hayward died , Governor Pointer appointed Senator - ator Allen to succeed him. 'rhat was national politics in a state campaign with a vengence , and such conditions are liable to arise at any time. And when a fusion governor is seated , the first of his official acts is to fill evpry state institution with political - ical pluggers. 'l'he "non-parti- san" proclivities which he exhib. ited during the campaign vanishes - ishes . in an instant , and he proceeds - ceeds to use all of the powerful inflnence of the governor's office to defeat every republican candidate - date at any future election. There is plenty of national politics - tics in the state campaign then. -0- Up to date three of Governor Mickcy's former pastors have re. sented the attack made upon the governor by a sensational minister - ter ot Omaha. Rev. J. H. Pres- sen , Rev. A. B. Whittmer andRe ReP. . C. Johnson , all of whom have filled pulpits in Osccola , ha.ve written lctters to the public press in which they flatly refute every criticism of the . governor passed by the Omaha preacher. Mr. Whittmcr says in part : "Can Brother Savidge make an oath to a single statement he has made ? I wish Brother Sav- idgc had gone to Osceola to search out the noble deeds and charitable acts of Governor Mickcy instea of the sore spots , for I am sure he could have satisfied - isfied himself abundantly. I was Governor Mickey's pastor for 3 , ycars covering the period of that awful scourge thedrouth. Men's souls were tried then and I had a splcndid opportunity to see and know that man. "I rccall my experiences with plt'asure. Let me namc a few : Mr. Mickey put up his finger in his characteristic way and said : ' , Brother Whittmer , whenever you tind a person suffering with hunger or cold draw on me , and this is good for all winter. ' I took him at his word and could tell Brother Savidge of SOUlC west touching incidents where prayer for help was answered through Brother Mickey's bank. I do not recall a single appeal thal e\'er came to Mr. Mickey in vain. Should Mr. Sa\'idgc visit me I could satisfy him or an ) ' other man that J. II. Micke ) ' carries - ries a tender heart. and had 1 t made such an attack on any IIHtn ; 1 could not have peace nntil I . hatt his forgiveness. IIGOI'ernor Mickey has been an ollicial member of Osceola for a greal many years. and has been a chief adviser of the pastors.
