Ruble , wife and son Kenneth - neth left Monday morning for St Louis by the way'of Chicago. Their son Frank will join them at Omaha and accompany them ! on their trip. They expect to be gone about two weeks. C. S. Martin and wife , D. 'V. Thomson and wife and Mrs. G. W. Apple returned last Saturday morning from St. Louis where they visited the Worlds Fair. Mr. Apple who accompanied them went on to Pennsylvania to spend a few days at his old home. He is expected back the latter part of this week. Dum-Ed ward A. Barker , Sunday September 25 , by acci- 'lent , age 22 years , 5 months and 1 day. The deceased was born at li'airbury , Nebraska , April 24 , 1882. He resided there with his parents until about four years ago when he came to Custer county. He married a daughter of Jess Ash , August 26th , 1903 : 'VII at 1ft t.llc. In the last analysis nobody /knows , but we do Imow that it is under strict law. Abuse that law even shghtly , pain results. 'l'hree brothers and a sister were present at the funeral , but his parents failed to get the word in time to be pre- sent. He leaves a wife and a babe to mourn his death , besides father , mother , brother and sis- ter. His remains were laid to rest in the Broken Bow Cemetry. MARRIItD-CAsn-LncK-At the residence of the ofllciatinff min- ister near Berwn , Nebraska , September 25th , 1904 , by Rev. Richard Bellis , Arthur G. Case of Berwyn , and Miss Ida B. Leck of El ton , Nebraska. The many friends of the young people wish them a large measure of prosperity - ity and in the end eteraallife.-X The Grand Island Independent of the 24th has quite a lengthy article contributed by R. O. Adams of Grand Island , on the South Loup country and his trip here recently , with the view of building a railroad from Grand Island , by the way of the South Loup to Gandy. He thinks a road on the lines not only feasible but that it would prove a paying investment. He states that at a meeting held during his visit to Georgetown thirty-six representative - tive farmers and ranch men were present. He was accompanied from . Broken Bow by W. A. Georg.e and G. L. Croolham. He gives the assessed valuation of three township in Custer County - ty through which the road is to pass. Mr. Adams was sent here b.y the Commercial club of Grand Island to look the matter up and report. His report was made to the Grand Island Commercial club at Grand Island Tuesday. Delegation - gation from Georgetown and communities in Buffalo and Hall counties were present. Mr. P. F. Campbell of Georgetown reports - ports that the people of Grand Island as well as the delegations along thc route were enthusiastic. NCslcctcd Colds. 'rhe conference comrrises about half of the state. ' 1 here were present about seventy ministers and lay delegates. One of the interesting features of ihe conference was the confirmation Qf the union of the P. M. church and the U. B. in Nebraska. The Prodestan t Methodist went over in a body to the U.
