One fellow was so unkind as to suggest that "Uncle Billy Predmore had written his speech as the language was his. Rockwell's pronounced anti-s loon views did not help his cause in this con- I vention. . . 'rhe roll call for county clerk I brought out the names of J. B. Osborn , 5S ; J as. Leonard , GSy. ; ; \V. P. Higgins , 44 ; Jas. Peal , 6 ; John ConIc ) ' , 3'ane C. G. Emp- fieW , 1. The scveral ca'ndidates thank- d the convention. Iliggins declined - clined to be a candidate while Messers Peal and Empfield assured - ed the convention they were not seeking the place. Mr. Leonard assured 'the ' convel fiolt' that he I , 'was ' willing an'd Mr. Osbourn was willing to submit to the will of the convention. If he was the strong st man he would tackel 'the ' job the , third time. He charged his last defeat to tlfe apathy of the , d lcga'fes fhat' ' n 't linated and the lack of in- terest'in the tax payers. He thought that if they would go to work for him whcn the ) ' got homc this time hc c mld be clected and th t'liis record as Hie best clerk vindicated. He put up a bcttcr t lk than 'Leopard and on" the second formal ballot he was nominated with I'll votes to Leonard's 71. , The informal ballot for clerk of the dIstrict court gave Ed. Miller , 28 ; e. T. 01'1' , 39 ; Ed. Neth , 49 ; Conley , . 33 and Layton 31y. ; . 'rh.e pres 'nf .tion of the/several . candidates gave Miller a chance to display his best talent. He led in. the second ballot and won out easily on tlfe third with a vo't e of 117 to 42 for Dayton and 1S for Orr. ' The informal ballot for county judgc gave Jess Gandy 40 } ( , C. \V. Beal55 } ( , W. P. Higgins 53 , R. E. Breg-a 13 , Geo. Greenwalt 9 , A. . Hartley 7. The several candidates were called out but none except Gandy expressed a willingness to make the race. On niotion the rules were suspended - pended and Gand ' was nominated - ed b ) ' acclamation. Foley of Dale , C. M. Blowers , of Arnold , N. A. Smith of Green , Alvin Daily of Anselmo , were brought on first ballot for county assessor. A-fter some discussion of the question the motion was with- < lra\vn and another ballot was , taken which re.mltcd in Dr. i Robinson 150 , Day 14. l ve from Broken Bow , two from Loup and seven froUl M'rtlc recorded their vote for Day over the protest. 'rhere being but one candidate for surve'or it was another case of Hopkins' choice and M. L. Lamb was put ul1 for the slaugh'- tel' by acclamation. Delegates for the state and' ' judicial conv ution w re elected and the county cent al committee chosen. 'l'he resolutions reported by the committee and read by J. J.
