For the first time in the history - tory of the United States every railroad has made a one-fare rate to a religious conventIOn. The convcntion iu question is the annual international convention - vention of the Disciples of Christ , which meets in Omaha , Neb. , October 15-23 , 1902. One fare for the round trip from every railroad in the United States lta s been offered. . Parties interested should consult the nearest railroad - road agent. . It is expected that upwards of 30,000 visitors will be in Omaha during the convention. Even lower than one fare I1Ul ) ' be secured - cured from points within 200 or 300 miles if large parties are or- ganhed and excursion trains rim. 'l'ry it from your locality. Chlll' ( h 'l'he evangelist HcJ , C. Hcdd- ing who is assisting the RcD. . Augustus Shetler in a series of evangelistic meetings in the Presbyterian - byterian church is a most unique .and forci lc spcaker. His style is ininmita le. He strikes out in a path of his own. PuttIng-aside aU convcntionalitics and painting sin in such colors that its hideous deformities arc most graphically re\'ealed. He clie\'es that God's people arc to be a people of strong convictions of unblamable life I and improachable character to COl1l'i'ICC t111' world of qitl. The faith and f ithfuln ss of Gud' people iu 10 his mind the golden key to open the win ows of heaven - en to confer a great spiritual blessing. He docs not believe in the so- called machine rev1\'als whereby so many converts can be turned out e\'ery year. His conception of a re\ ' val of religion is when God's people become - come so spiritual , so consecrated that the Holy Spirit work as a leayen to elIect even the leaven of unrighteousness. His sympathies - pathies arc most heart felt with those who have lost t.he true pathway - way of lifc. He had h msel f tasted the better dregs of de- gredation and br the grace of God was plucked as a fiery brand from the burning. He feels most keenly the great love of' God in taking his unworthy life and permitting - mitting him to become of so great usefulness in the Master's vine- yard. I-lis is not an ordinary zeal in the work of the Master. One canllot help but be impressed with his deep earnestness and be convinced that he is a truly consecrated - secrated man. He is con\'ersant with his Gospel theme and most graphically depicts spiritual life and spiritual death. He gives in his talks everyone something to think about and something that will have the tendencv to make each one a better - ter man or a better woman. Every sermon he has preached thus far has been full of gospel truths but in a way that it will be difficult to forg t. While he is a Presbyterian - terian , ne\'ertheless he belongs to ! the whole church as the testimony of the Rev. G. W. Abbott D. D. of the Methodist Episcopal church of Falls City Nebraska indicates. I-Ie says : "Brother Redding is a remarkable man and one of the strongest men in his peculiar work that it has bc n my lot to meet during the 20 years of my ministry. He is the first evangelist that has ever been able to get hold of the business men of this place in the history of the town. During my professional life I have heard many addresses given to men , ut the sermon delivered last Sabbath - bath surpassed anything of the kind that I have e\'er known in my life. Under it 400 men wept like children and a score or more boldly walked out of the throng and gave fh ir hand to Mr. Redding - ing in token of the fact that they had started to lead a better life. It was a meeting that those who attended it will never forget as long as they have any memory. I am a Methodist and Redding is a Presbyterian and : yet if" I were going to hold a meeting I would t lke him in preference to any man I know in m ) ' church , and we have some as good Evangelists - gelists , as can be found in any church on earth. " Brother Redding - ing expects to speak only to men on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 : p. tll. at the Preshyterian church. It w ll e a gr nd opportunit ) ' for every man of Broken Bow who has a desire for spiritual progressiun to be present at this meeti ng. 'rhe general verdict of all those who have heard Brother Redding in the meetings in prog- ress consider him a most remark- able man. His coming to our ci ty we believe is most providential - dential , as it was brought about in a most singular way. It was I something l1ke the cry of the Ma donians , who St. Paul in the \'ision heard the call I 'Come over into Macedonia and hclpus. " 'We feel most conHdent his coming - ing will prove helpful and an inspiration - spiration to all of God's people in Broken Bow , and we hope and pra } ' of eternal value to many of the now going church people of our city and commul11ty. 'l'he movement , we hope , will not only benefit the Presbyterian church , but Brother Redding's desire is that the whole christian community may receivc an np- lifting into a higher spiritual COllc'ption of truth and consecration - tion to christian work. 'rhe christian people of this city ought to vic with each other to make this visit of Brother Redding - ing to our cit ) . a most memorable event. Every church believcr of this cit ) . aud community ought to pray most fervcnt1) ' that the snnles of God may graciously rest , npon these evangelistic services. . . , . " f. , . - . , . . . . . . .
