ncss was the temporary organim- :
tion of a school ell cers association -
tion of the county with thc view
. : of effecting a permancnt organization -
zation in the near future. 'l'he
chairman appointed J. D. Ream ,
Jules Haunlllnt and M. G. 'olont-
gomery on constitLttion and by-
laws. J. J , Tooley was elected
temporary president and J. A.
Deits , temporary secretary of the
association. The music of the
occasion was furnished by a
ladies glee club ,
The organization of the couuty
association was followed with a
speech by State Superintendent
'V. K. Fowler. It was a most
excellen t address. It should
have been heard by every school
officer in the county. It was full
of useful and practical infor-
mation.
'l'he subject of "grading and
Uniformity of our Rural schools"
was discussed by A. C. 'rowle of
Merna and others. 'rhe discussion -
sion favored the Uniformity and
a motion to adopt the Nl'braslm
course of study was carried. 'l'he
question of text books was discussed -
cussed by J , A. Dietz and others.
. 'l'he sentiment expressed was
that the pupils of Custer county
were entitled to the best booles
on the marlrcts and that many of
the bools used at the present
time arc back numbers. , 'l'he
free text book question was dis-
cussed. Most of those present
favored the free text booh
system.
J. J. 'l'ooley gave an able re.

school affairs.
