Tl o mouthpiece of the pop party
called the Beacon , ! H now very
mueli opposoi ) to Judge Armour ,
simply because ho baa been nomin
ated for the third time by the re
publicans to the ollicc which ho so
ably mid satisfactorily fills. The
Beacon , doubtless , has forgotten
bow vi orlesaly it urged the elec
tion of 0. At. Kcm for tbo third
term to congress , fliou again ,
with no lees oii'ort , appealed to tl o
voters to support II. H. lliatt for
the third term for county superin
tendent ! If it was riibt ; for a pop.
ulist to bo elected for the third
term , wbrn not quahtiml , ss ia tion-
ceeded in Kern's cnsc , why is it t < o
great a mistake for tbo republican
parly to rcnominato a man so em
inently qualified nnd satisfactory to
the public as Judge Armour for the
third torm. Ob , consistency , tbou
irtajowol ! What docs the Beacon -
con offer instead ? A single termer.
A model otlicial ! The unanimous
choice of his paity ? No ! It does
tot ( jvun mention the name of
Judge Aunour's populist competi
tor. Merely by inference the Beaten
ton seeks to detract from tlio pop
ularity of Judge Armour. His
political competitor is J. li. Dean ,
who has served two terms , in the
capacity of of county attorney , and
now Huelih a third trim. Did ho
provo efficient and loyal to his
trust ? Is his record such for effici
ency and fearlcsHiicHH as an officer
nud loyalty to his party colleagues
Hiiuh that you want him elected to B
third tojm instead of J. A , tVrmour.
If you do not know ark uuch men
as Win.Pfrobin or Fred CtimmingB ,
of West Union , and many others ,
who arc loaders in the pop ratike.
What tbo people want is the best
men , men best quahtied , and that
will servo the best interests of the
county , irrespective of party or
creed- The republican party bus
nominated just tlmt class of men in
J. A. Armour , for county judge ; C.
O. Liud , for register ; W.
A.George , for county treasurer
R D. Sullivrn for sheriff , J. W. G
Lewis , for superintendent , Goo. W.
Dewey for clerk and F , E.VnnAnt-
worp for Burveyor. They are men
who are competent and will make
ofliciout oflicers. No lens competent
are the men nominated for super
visors. They arc succoasful busi
ness men capable and strictly bon-
est and will run the affairs of tbo
county economically and tor tbo
boat interests of the whole people.
They are J. F. Broohbuhl , H. J.
Edington and Jules Hauniont.
The election of these men means
economy , honesty and true service.
What bavo the republicans of
Cuator county to offer taxpayers
for their support this fall , Their
record before the populists took
hold of affairs in this county stands
out against them as tbo depths rf
hadosi Boaoou ,
The republicans bad control of
tbfl county in its infancy , befoio
there was a foot of land to tax ,
Homesteaders bad but little per-
Rnnal property to tux , and there
were no business firms with capi
ta ! as now , nor no railroads in tbo
county , The prpulation jumped
Irom 1,200 in 1880 to 13,000 in
liyc yours , and in ton years to 2L- ,
0(0 , Ninoty-Hvo per cent , of the
increase viero homesteaders , and
hundreds of them were practically
penniless. Notwithstanding this
fact , they were enterprising and
lopoful , They believed in law and
order. They wanted a county g V'
crnmont that tbo law might bo en
forced , and that tboy and their
families might bu protected from
thtx Texas cow boye , who respected
tbo rights of none. They disputed
the rights of tbo bomcHteadfrs in
every locality. Lmjuent murders
respited , and expensive trials fol
lowed. The republican officials
wore equal to tbo situation. They
were fearloas and 'determined.
They prosecuted every cast ) of law-
lesannsH to a successful termination ,
and in doing that , they incurred
expenses greater than the legal
levy on the limited amount of tax
able property would meet. They
brought peace nud prosperity out
of chaou and poverty. Schools and
churches wore established where
outlawry and deeds tbo darkest in
the history of the stake have been
poipotuatod. Tbo homofiteador wan
protected. Two hundred schools
wore established in ten years , where
there had not been ono. Temporary
ary county buildings wore super *
cecded by the magnificent court
house , that is now the pride of
every loyal citizen. With all these
expenses , under so unfavorable cir
cumstances , in'en ' years of con
struction , the republican party bad
run tbo county without increasing
a dollar of bonded debt , and had
assets suflioient to moot every dollar
lar of floating indebtedness , when
they turned the administration over
to tbo pops in 1800. No county in
the state can show a hotter record.
It was a record of economy , a rec
ord of law , a rooord of progress that
baa not been equaled by any county
in Nebraska. Thou we have tbo
record of the present year , in which
tbo county board baa mot the ox >
pauses of the county on half the
amount required by n populist
board. It may bo a record "as dark
as the deplhs of hades" to tbo re
form apostle , who wrote the above
creed , but if BO , be has our pity , n&
wo can account for it only on the
theory that to some , heaven would
bo a boll ,
