The report for 1808 just to hand contains the following interesting statement : "There wore handled 7,500,000 nassongcrs with out accident , and $00,000,000 worth of baggage without the IOMH of a sin. glejntoe. This is the third successive sivo year in which there has been no claim for lost baggage of a y kind at this station. " The Pennsylvania , Chicago & Al ton , uurlinglon aim luiiwauKoo rail roads are the lines whoso trains run Into and out of this station. The western part of Nebraska is to bo opened up for developmen by tbo construction of a new rail road to branch off from the Burling ton's line to the Northwest at Alh auce , Nobr. , and extend westward i distance of 115 miles to llartville Wyo. The jiow line has been snr veycu and 120 teams are already a work grading the road bed. The company building the line is stylet the Nebraska. Wjoming & Wosten railroad and n may later ho abporb cd by the progressive Burlington Syotcm. Features of Pat-acnecr Service , ' a booklet just published , gives nom fails and figures that are laiily astounding to one not fiinuliar with the work required to keep Amori- oaus on the move. Hero arc some excerpts showing the nnnr'nsity of the service on one western road ; " 126,000 passenger trains arc run each year by the Burlington Route. "Besides 7COO miles of main line and branches , 1,500 miles of side track are necessary in operating the railroad. " "Tho equipment ] comprises approx imately 1.050 engines , 1,100 paHsen > ger oars , 30,500 freight oars. If co upled together , these would cover a BtrotoL ot road 300 miles long. " "Upon the Burlington are 1,176 oitioa and IO'AUB , forty-lour of whioh are cities of more than 10- , 000 people. " "Thirty Union Depots are used , and seventeen great bridges have boon built over the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. " "Runs of 1025 miles , Chicago to Denver , in 1047 minutea-tho world's long-distance record and of 500 miles , Qhioago to Council Bluffs , in 554 minutes , show the efficiency of the motive power.
