The Homingford Cornet Band
will give a grand ball in lleming
ford on Wednesday ovening,
June 29. Good music wilj be in

The opening day of tho croam-
ery has been changed from Mon
day 27th, to Wednesday 29th, on
account that Monday is school
ejection day.
Mr and Mrs E C Sheldon re
turned yesterday from Howard
county. They made the trip
overlaud and have been gone
thirty days.
H W Ditto is visiting his
brother John. Ho will go to
Omaha in a few days to take in
tho Exposition after which he
will go to Los Angeles, Cal.

Arthur Fox a young eon of
Jos Fox, of Alliance, was brought
to Homingford Monday night at
tho request of his mother who
could not control the boy.
Judge Hewett ordered him sent
to tho reform school and Sheriff
Sweeney took him to Kearney
where ho became a member of
Prof Fenner's "family".
The Box Butte County Institute
opened at 8:30 a. m. Monday
morning with a good attendance.
Tho number enrolled is now over
forty. Every teacher seoraB
very much interested in tho
work and realizes that the way
in whioh tho work is being done
makes this institute the most
helpful 0110 evor held in tho
couKty. Messrs Watson and
Gardner understand thoroughly
what is neodod in our schools
and aro doing excellent work.
They aro both enthusiasts and
J-ho work they are doing will im
prove our schools to a marked
extent.
W, IS, Watson lectured in the
M. E. church Thursday evening
to an appreciative audience.
Sup't JackBon lectures in the
United Presbyterian church to
uight and will talk to tho teach
ors Saturday morning at 9 a. m.,
after which will bo election of
officers for our county Associ
ation! and other busiuess. The
Institute closes with this session.

The creamery will bo opened
on Wednesday, June 29th with
appropriate exercises. Tho fol
lowing program nas boon pre-i
pared.
Parade at 10 a. m.
The milkmaid's drill will bo
rendered by seven young ladies.
A prizo one ten-gallon milk
can will be given to the person
who brings in the largest amount
of milk on that day.
Songs by all tho different
nationalities
The Ladies' Progressire Club!
will entertain all visitors at their
reception room.
Music by tho Hemingford Cor
net Band. Singing, rocitations,
etc.
The committee on speakers aro
corresponding with gentlemen
from abroad and a good speaker
will bo present.
Evervono come andbringyour
friends and help celebrate tho
opening of a grand enterprise.
Boy Lobt.
Pierro, the 10-year-,old son of
Mr and Mrs G C Alexander dis
appeared Tuesday and 110 trace
of him has been found up to tho
time of going to press. Tho
boy was hording cattle Tuesday
and was last seen by his parents
at 11 o'clock about a half mile
from the house. As he did not
cqino home for supper his par
ents supposed he had gono to a
neighbor's but not returning
that night they commonced a
search Wednesday in which the
neighborhood joined but no trace
of him could bo found. A num
ber started from town this morn
ing to join in the search. It is
feared that the boy will not be
fonnd alive.

Miss Maggie Ross has returned
from Chadron where she has bnou
attending school.
John Horline started for North
Dakota Monthly with a good
hunch of horses for tho market.
Miss Nollio Goodenough and
Miss Lula Blair were the guests
of Mrs und Yira Atlcin Sunday
J A Wilson is buying horses
for Sam Burke or at least is keep
ing Mr Burk posted on horses in
this neighborhood.
D W Albrightis expected homo
trom North Dakota soon where ho
wont with a bunch of horses which
he has sold at good prices.
Alox Texloy is among us again
but will not stop long. Ho will
look after his land here and then
go to North Dakota to harvest.
Wm O'Mara has sunk his stock
well deeper as ho wsb short of
water for Itta cattle. f this
weather continues much longer
others will have to follow suit.
M D Atkiii says this is bud
weather to haudle butter. Ho is
agitating the creamery question
for Box Butte. He ships about
1000 lbs of butter a week.
S D Graham has been engaged
by Rob Graham of tho Sand Hills
to look after his cattle that ho will
put on tho market at Alliance.
Sam is a good man for that posi
tion. Hiram Wilson has returned
from an extended visit in Ohio,
Tudiana and Iowa, He enjoyed
his trip vory much but was glad to
got back o a country where ho
cau travel without going in mud
ankle deep.
Geo Ross has his fence complet
ed on tho Wikoff ranch now owned
by Mr Milikcn of Freemont.
Goorgo will bo foreman for Mr
Milikon and will movo tho stock
soon. Wo uro sorry to lose
George from this place but ho has
a good position and wc wish him
succoew.

higher than schedulo valuation.
Board reduced said assessment
from $155 to 110.
There being no further com
plaints nd the Board having
complied with the law in that thoy
had remained in session not less
than three days, they proceeded
to make the levy of taxes for
county purposes for the year 1898,
as follows, towit:
County general fund nino mills
on each dollar of assessed valu
ation; County bridge fund, four mills
on each dollar of assessed valu
ation, Total levy for all purposos thir
teen mills.
The total assessed valuation of
the county, as correoted, includ
ing amount returned by tho State
Auditor was found to bo $764,016.

The following levy was thon
made for tho payment of interest
on shhool bonds, and for tinal re
demption of the bonds iu school
districts wherein bonds have been
issued, as follows, towit:
School district No. 18, 10 mills on eaoh dollar
of aahessud valuation; DUt V, 10 mlllw. 45, 10;
47, 10: 60, 6: 72. 10.
