I A small party of Alliancoitosl appealed befoio the boaid of; county commi.sslont'r.s Tuesday aud presented a petition asking! for th calling of a special eloc-1 lion for tho purpose of sul mit ting the question of relocation of tho county scat. They emphati-1 cnlly requested tho houid lo actj upon tlieir petition and call an election forth villi. This tho board declined to do for the reason that they dosiro to inves tigate tho petition and ascertain whether or not the signt rs there to are resident electors of this county. The roiuonstiators ap peared before tho board and re quested sixty days time .for the petition to be investigated and the board took action today and granted them 52 days. Tho Al liance "10c lawyers" tried to run their same old dodgo of having the election called before their petition can bo investigated. Ap parently that is their only hopo. If their petition is a good one it ought to keep for a few days. Two years ago they presented a similar potiliou which upon in vestigation was found to contain a great many illegal names and a glance at the petition now on file would indicate that it is simi lar to the old one, as it is signed by people who reside in adjoin ing counties Attorneys Smyser, Mitchell and Berry represented the petitioners while Tut tie and Ilamer appeared for the romon strators. IT WAS OBSERVED That LawyerBorry put in most of his tinio trying to look wise. That lawyers Sullivan and Nolemainlid not visit Heming ford this week. That Lawyer Mitchell was con spicuous for his absence when Judge Hamor arrived. Thai Aiiie Simonson's argu- mouts(?)had utile weight with the board aud tho only good Alio accomplished was lo pay for tlireo days board at ono of Hem ingford's leading hotels. That Lawyer Hampton was not as enthusiastic as ho was two years ago and parsed away tho tinio smoking fragrant havanas. Mr. Hampton wns suspicious that th6so treacherous Ilomingford ites had a mine placed somewhere aud ho was not desirous of jar ring anything loose. That Birdsell, tho B & M train master, spent Tuesday with his Alliance frionds at tho court houso and that his clerk George Burke was hero all day Monday. Those "fellows are smooth enough to make good detectives. That tho hardest task was shouldered on Uncle Sam Smyser because he was used to 'pearing in public. After a short consul tation it was decided that someone must ansy?or Hamor and Sam was selected. He pointed his linger high in tho air, drew a long breath and oratory began to flow. Sam niado tho effort of his life and done evorvbody's heart good to hear him. The Alliance boys really thought that they were lis tening to the secoxd Abraham Lincoln. Everything wont along smoothly until he closed. Judge Hamor arose and' then it was Judge Smvser ihou!ht 'n- i in Havana harbor and the Spaniifds bad fixed him i(h one of their celebrated torpedoes H'1 .irons ed himself and hnnring the boys veil and seein"1 so muiiy familiar faces of old Homintrford friends he realized tint he was on Amer ican soil and in friendly hand's and then he was thankful that the old Judpo let him off so easv. However. Mr. Sm-nr is a good natured fellow and the best at torney in the "midnight town." Mass fleeting. At HV.M1NQFOHD, Saturday M Alien 20, 1898. Every taxpayer in the county should attend as question of vital importance to each and every ono will bo considered. Matters relat ing to the question of county seat re-location will be discussed .
