Eberly started on a trip to tho eastern part of South Dak., to look over the country. Ho in tends to stay for a conple of months. Mr. Jacobson, now of Sherman county but formerly a resident of this county was up here visiting friends last week. Ho reports crops iine in that part of tho state. Omtuahy Miss Lillie, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. John eon of this place, died at her par ents home, Juno 9th of conation of tho liver. She was 21 years, 7 months and 9 days old; was born in Cass county this state and has resided here for tho last 7 years. Sho was a membor of the U. P. church and also of tho Y. P. 0. U. Her faith was is Jesus Christ her "saviour, and sho died in the hope of a glorious resurrection. Her lust word on earth was "Home" and to judge by her gestures she meant to say, she was going homo. The funeral services were held at her parents home, Bev. W. J.Gol den of Alliance ofliciating and the remains wero intored in Green wood cemetery near Alliance. The entire community extend their heartfelt sympathy to tho grief stricken family in their sad be reavement. Manager Goodenough's base ball team will go to Duhlap to morrow ta play a game with tho Dunlap nine. Board of county commissioners met as a board of equalization as required by statute Members present James llol linrako. chairman, Geo. W. Dun can and James Barry. Upon examination of the asses sor's returns for Liberty precinct it appears to tho board that tho total assessed valuation of that precinct is too low as compared to other precincts; it is huroby ordered that a proportionate in crease be made in tho assessed valuation of each piece of laud subject to assessment, making tho total assessed valuation ol real cstato of that precinct 819,49.i instead of S0,C3o as re turned by the assessor. No complaint being made, the board spent tho balance of the day in exanlining tho assessors returns and at (5 p. m., on motion, adjourned until H a. m., Juno 10. James Hollinrake, Olirmu. F. M. Upon examination of tho asses sor's returns of Box Butto .pre cinct it appearing that the total assessed valuation of that pre cinct is too low as compared to other precincts and it is heieby ordered that the realostato as sessed valuation bo increased 24 per cent. J. F. J, Mills that nw qr section 33, and nw qr section 34, and no qr sec tion 35, all in town 27, range 47 is assessed too high as compared to adjoining pieces of land, upon consideration tho board hereby orders that the assessed valua tion of these pieces of land bo made to read $150.00 each in stead of 8185.00., No further complaints having been made tho board continued tho examination of the assessors books and at G p. m., adjourned to meet at 8 o'clock a. m., Juno 12th. McWhinney ashing that the as sessed valuation of his stock of dry goods at Alliance be reduced from 2,000 to $500, for tho reas on that ho had given tho assessor full value instead of one-fourth value. Upon consideration, the board hereby orders that said as sessment bo reduced from $2,000 to 750. Complaint was made by D. K. Spacht that the sw qr 5-27-49 and by Sullivan Hutchins that so qr 0-27-49, and by John Zajic that n o qr 19-27-49, and by Mary Watson that nw 20-27-49 wore each assessed too high; after duo consideration tho board orders that oach piece of land bo reduc ed to 8262. Complaint having boon filed by Frederick V. Krug that so qr 19-27-51 was assessed too high; nftg duo consideration tho board or dered that tho same bo reduced from 175 to 8150. Complaint was made by Joseph Civish, of Lawn precinct, that through a misunderstanding he had given in his personal proper ty at full valuation, after consid eration tho board ordored his pergonal assessment reduced from $79 1 to 8255. All complaints having boon acted upon and the board having complied with the law in that they had remained in sossiou not less than three days, they pro ceeded to make the levy of taxes for the year lb90, as follows, to-wit: County general fund, nine (9) mills on each dollar assessed val uation. County bridge fund, two and one-half (2$) mills on each dollar assessed valuation. County school fund, one-fourth of one mill, except on property in school district No. G. Total levy for all purposes, eleven and three-fourths mills. The total assessed valuation of the county, as corrected, includ ing amount roturuod by the stato auditor, was found to be $709, 229.58. Miss Brophy, of Chadron, ar rived in town Monday and is visiting Miss Mary O'Keofe. The Ladies' Aid society of the Congregational church will meet next Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. Misses Mary Basso and Minnie "Wohlers, of Allianco, visited relatives and friends in Heming ford Sunday. Will Fallon and sister accom panied Harvo and Nollio Good enough from Hay Springs and remained till Sunday. Tho Illustrated lecture next Thursday ovoning will bo first of tho kind over given in Heming ford. Secure your tickets early. Messrs. Martin and John Ma honey, John Baumgardnor, T. Collins and Jos. Manion wore Box Butters who transacted bus iness at tho county seat this week. Next Sunday iB Childrons' Day at tho Congregational church; at ten o'clock is the Sunday school concert. McKinley of Ohio and Ilobart of New Jorsoy will bond the re publican ticket. Mrs. Hawloy, Mrs. Bean, Mrs. Earnest and Miss Hamilton wore all quite ill this week. A bright baby girl mado her appoaranco at tho homo of Mi, and Mrs. Will O'Mara Tuesday. All parties doing well. The Missionary society of tho Congregational church hold its regular mon thly dinner Wednes day at Mrs. McOandlcss'. Thoro was a good attendance and every body, old and young, had a good time. Whilo coming into town Satur day Mrs. G. L. Taylor's team bo came frightened and ran away throwing Mrs. Taylor and daughter out of tho buggy but fortunately they received only slight injury. Tho Baptist peoplo will hold a series of revival inoetings in Hem ingford begining on the evening of Juno 23rd. Rev. J. H. Davis, one of tho Stato evangelists will be nerowitn a large Uospcl tout and preach each ovening. Mrs. Weir of Chadron will take charge of tho singing. All are invited to attend. Mr. Wildy, proprietor of tho groat clothing emporium, has invesled somo of his surplus wealth in mining ground adjoin ing the Yankee Boy.
