The reasons are clear. For the first time in nearly a generation, men’s footwear has been radically restyled, with the result that casual shoes most as suredly enter the gift category. This applies to boys, too. And as for the feminine side of the family, it is even simplerj to find the gay and glamorous “at home” shoes that will bringi squeals of pleasure from the girls. Soft suede in delicate colors, smooth and crushed grain leath ers. glittering silver and gold leathers, all have been worked into luxurious glamour shoes for wear while hostessing, viewing T-V or just lounging around. Although normally you might never think of buying father a pair of shoes as a gift, the new loafers will strike you as perfect as a present for him. So will the new low cut, one and two eyelet models done in leathers soft to the touch, available in myraid colors such as bambaa, smoke, butternut, sorrel tan and of course black. There are literally hundreds of different styles of leather bed room slippers to choose gifts from for all members of the family. They range from soft leather scuffs and mules for Mother and the teen-agers to the more con ventional leather opera slippers for Dad. Or the warm-as-toast slippers lined in genuine wool 14th when they will play the Flor ence Lions. Some of the outstand ing players on the Kellom teams are Valdora Johnson, Velma John son and JoAnn Whitley. shearling for all members of the family. Shearling, if you don’t know, is the soft underwool of the sheep or lamb, which has been left on the leather as it is tan ned, and results in the warmest, most comfortable cold weather footwear this side of the North Pole. Gay Wrappings, Must For Christmas Gifts Presents To Be Sent Through Mail Nee^ Special Care Gay colorful wrappings are a must for Christmas gifts—even those to be mailed. But for mail ing purposes, you’ll need special designs that won’t get crushed. The answer to this problem is to use colored gift wrap tapes. These tapes can be arranged in a variety of designs that will be easy to cover for mailing. Besides an assortment of color ed tapes, you’ll need white or colored shelf paper (less expen sive than wrapping paper), trans parent tape and a pair of scis sors. Cutouts from last .year’s greet ing cards are helpful to add a few decorative touches. Gifts may be wrapped in col orful Christmas papers or in plain shelf paper first. It’s best to re wrap the decorated package in the shelf paper before finally treating it for mailing. On the other hand, if first wrapped in shelf paper, gift wrap tapes can be used for applying myraid dec orative designs. Transparent cellophane tape can also be used in a number of ways to create unusual patterns. For a glamorous effect, try dip ping the sticky side of the tape in gold or silver flitter and tape this around your package. Even salt, tapioca or ornament “snow” crystals can be applied to the sticky side of tape in the same way. Toothpicks, colored straws and any other colorful items you might have around the house can be taped directly on the package to form original motifs. Gifts for mailing out of town should be mailed about four weeks before Christmas. Cush ion breakable items with excel sior or shredded paper. An inner wrapping of corru gated paper gives extra insurance for packages marked “fragile.” For the outer wrapping use heavy brown paper or a corrugated car ton, as needed. Tie these with six-ply twine, doubling it for greater safety. To keep the paper in place while you’re tying it, fasten first with some cellophane tape. It’s also a good idea to use tape on the corners of the pack age to prevent the twine from cutting into the outer wrapping.
