1 *3 ^ Church Newsi -ATTEND SOME CHURCH EACH SUNDAY i ' 'M Hope Lutheran Church 30th and Corby How I Became a Lutheran Hope Lutheran church R Membership Instmctions and What They Meant to me. Before becoming a member fo Hope Lutheran Church I at tended a few Sunday services there. Each one of these servic es impressed me very much. What impressed me most was the reading of the sermon text and the clear explanation of of that text. On one of these Sundays I informed the pastor that I enjoyed his sermon very much and not being conncted with any church I was thinking strongly of joining Hope Lu theran. We talked at length and he finally asked me when or what evenings would it be convenient for me to receive instructions. I finally named the evenings, but was curious as to what these instructions were like and what connection they had with joining a church Pastor bchauland s first visit was of a social nature and a very pleasant one. We talked of current events, automobiles and so forth. On leaving he left a booklet. This booklet contained several lessons, 12 to be exact. Each lessan discuss ed one example in one lesson the ten Commandments were discussed. At our next meeting we went into the instruction or should I say Bible study for that is what these instructions turned out to be. This was the beginning of a new era for mte, an era of understanding and peace of mind for these passages were studied, discussed and explain ed. The Bible was always used as a reference. I have heard some people say that the Bible contradicts itself; but don’t you believe it! In these in structions we read several verses in different parts of the Bible referring to the same thing, and after careful study and discussion we found that worded a little differently they meant the same things. I found that no matter how well I kept the ten Commandments, no matter how well I treated my neighbor, I was still a sin ner in the sight of God. And only by God’s grace and love and my trust in Jesus Christ as our savior can we be saved. In fact, I learned we find our sal vation comes from truth which only from the Bible and “the truth shall make us free.” Th erefore, as a member of Hope ^Lutheran Church I listn to the pure Gospel very Sunday. These instructions do not. teach you to be a Lutheran.' "Ibey teach you the salvation bl your soul, and how to live a good, Christion life. After you have taken the course and agree with its teachings you may join the Lutheran Church if you so desire. Sunday School at Hope Lutheran begins at 10 a. m. Worship at 11 a. m. Everyone welcome. Bringing Christ to The Nations Saint Louis, Mo., Sept. 25 (Special) An appeal for faith in Christ’s completed redemp tion will be issued tomorrow by the Reverend Doctor John W. Behnken, president of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod and summer guest speaker on Bringing Christ to the Nations, the International Lutheran Hour. Speaking over the Mutal Broadcasting Sys tem and affiliated stations, Dr. Behnken a pre-release, de clared: “Europe, wrich during the past three decades has twice been a bloody battlefield the scene of gory warfare, of indescribable destruction of devastation which surpasses the imagination of men, is naturally fertile ground for earnest and serious thought about tre approaching end. At a series of conferences with German clergymen, which a number of Lutheran pastors at tended a few weeks ago and during which the great doc trines of Scripture and its prac tical application to life, espec ially to the life in congrega tions, were thorougrly discus sed, the matter of Christ’s com ing was mentioned again and again. The thinking of many of Europe’s church people run very much in eschatological crannels.” Dr. Behnken continued: “These are but a few glimpses of* the glorious redempion which awaits us. In view of this we ought to be the hap piest people on eartr. Our hearts should be full of hope and assurance. But more than this, since we know that this old world will be dissolved, we should certainly not rivet our hearts unto tre things of this life. We should lift up our heads in great expectancy. In conclusion, he decleared: “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelletr righteous ness. Wherefore, beloved, see ing that ye look for such things be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, with out spot, and blameless.” Clair Chapel News Fellowship Welcome for the Pastor .
