Our Pastor spoke from Malachi 3, chapter 8-9 verse. The subject was “Will a man rob God”? He preached a wonderful sermon. The message that was 'brought forth aws food for the thought. Every one was inspir ed as he revealed what portion of our earnings belongs to God he also taught us no matter whose service we are in one tenth of our earning is God. His last thought that he left with the congregation was that God is not a narrow minded God. We also had a visitor with us from Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Tally Mae Hill Miss Dorothy Steen—repter The Reverand Professor Os wald Hoffman, Professor, Con cordia Collegiate Institute, Bronxville, New York, and speaker on the International Lutheran Hour on June 20, ancf 27. St. Louis, Mo., June 6, (Special) Christ’s answer for the age-old question of human sorrow was given today by the Rev. Professor Oswald Hoff man, professor at Concordia Collegiate Institute, Bronx ville, New York, and summer guest speaker on Bringing Christ to the Nations, the In ternational Lutheran Hour. Speaking over the Mutual Broadcasting System and af filiated stations, Professor Hoffman declared: “There is so much worry, fear, uncer tainty, and pain in modern life that these ingredients seem al most to be the stuff of which life is made. Is this the way God intended men to be ? What are we to think of the pain, the ■ sorrow, the disap pointment, the toil which make up the still, sad music of suf fering humanity? What are we to think of a God who claims to be both good and al mighty, and still permits suf fering to roam at large, enter ing the hovels of the poor and the mansions of the wealthy, touching the lives of all men everywhere ?” rrotessor Hoffman contin ued: “If you are not a child of God today, if Christ who sufmered for you means noth ing to you, God in Hi$ love may be sending you pain to call to Himself. If you are a child of God, who has wander ed far, God may be calling you back through the warning | voice of pain. By means of suf fering God often plants the flag of truth in the hearts of rebellious sinners. For God demands not some superficial improvement, not some patch ing up of your past life. He demands of rebels that they lay down their arms and sur render to His redeeming love. “If you are a child of God by faith in Christ, God may be sending you pain and sor row that through suffering you may bring Christ to those about you, your family, your friends, your community. As Christ brought you to God by His own suffering, so God may be bringing others to Christ through your Christian fort itude and faith and continu ance in well doing amid phys ical or mental trial. ‘It is bet ter,’ says the Apostle, ‘if the will of God be so, that you suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. For Christ also hath suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring you to God.‘ ” EVER READY CHORUS The Ever Ready Male Chor us of Pleasant Green Baptist Church will observe its second anniversary at 3:00 p. m. Sun. at the church. The public is cordially invited. The Junior Choir of Pleasant Green Baptist Church will have an old fashioned song ser vice at 8:00 p. m. on Sunday at he church. The public is cord ally invited. ... . . Party Fare The other day in a grocery store, a woman and her eleven year old boy were purchasing four good-sized oranges. This was their only purchase. From their conversation I gathered that the oranges were to be used for a cake to serve at an afternoon party for the wo man’s friends. The boy asked if he could have one, but his mother an swered, “No, they’re too ex pensive ust to eat.” I hope that there were other citrus fruits at this home for the boy to have. Certainly, of all foods in the market today, there is no hotter buy than the citrus fruit juices. Fancy oranges are higher, but when families have too little money for basic es sentials, somehow there’s al ways money for “extras”—as a fancy dessert. Cake As Dessert It is true, most folks do like cake, but many who go to parties should be counting their calories and prefer lighter refreshments. The most ob jectional feature of cake is the amount of sugar it cantains. Cake in itself usually serves no nutritional need. One can eas ily get enough calories from essential foods, without cake. One of the most encouraging nutritional trends is that many mothers serve only fruits as desserts. The less frequently oversweet desserts are made, the sooner the family comes to care little for them'. An im provement in health invariably follows. I i - J Summer Oomph!
