We've just finished housecleaning
at our home, getting ready for the
holiday season . . . and during the
process we did a bit of re-deco
rating as well. The living and din
ing rooms were re-papered in one
of the new deep colored patterns \
and we transformed a storage
closet to a tiny combination pow
der room and dr.n.
I was skeptical about thfc dark
wall paper at first . . . but an inte
rior decorator friend suggested
using mirrors on the walls to re
flect the white woodwork and win
dow light. Well, I tried it — and
the effect is really beautiful!
When we discovered the visual
tricks that mirrors could perform,
my husband and I began experi
menting and decided to remodel the
closet into a powder room and den.
The room was long but narrow ... .
io we prepared the long walls with
» gay plaid wall paper and paint
ed the end walls. Then we found
a modern desk, chests and dressing
table of the same height . . . and
formed them into a single unit cov
ering one complete side wall.
Above this furniture we placed
four large mirrors, and that tiny
den seemed to widen as if by
magic! Those mirrors reflected the
entire room — and it actually look
ed twice as large! It’s surprising
how mirrors do brighten a room,
isn’t it? My decorator friend said
they used them for decorating and
brightening every room in the
house ... I was interested, too, in
her remark that most mirror
manufacturers use Pittsburgh
Plate Glass because of its beauty
and true reflections. She said that
for a true reflection a mirror must
be made of plate glass . . . anc
told me that those I had selectee
were. Because of that fatt I an
doubly satisfied with my "Mirrol
Decorating” — in fact, I am plan*
ning to include mirrors among mj
