Raines Mrs. Jeanie English, Reporter Preceding the sermon. Rev. Raines requested the choir to sing “Journey to the Sky.” It was beautifully led by Mr. Chaney, the president of the choir. Rev. Raines’ text was taken from the 42 Psalm, 11th verse: “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet {fraise him, who is the health of my countenance and my God.” Theme: God’s cure for the blues. Sometimes we feel that life isn’t worth living. When we feel that way, we should read slowly and understandingly the 42nd and 43rd Psalms, which is a very fine cure. We should never feel sorry for ourselves, because when we begin to feel sorry for ourselves we’re destroying our own lives. Have faith in God, He is the best cure known. Rev. Raines closed his sermon by singing, with the aid of the congregation, “He Knows Just How Much We Can Bear.” Visitors are always welcome, please return. Let us always remember to pray for the ill. Plan to attend the Pre-Christ mas Tea given by the Loyal Matron’s Club at the North Side Y. W. C. A. on Dec. 14, from 4 to 7 p. m. For men the average length of life is 64.5 years, and for the American people as a whole, 66 years. The increase in expectation of life at birth since the beginning of the century results from a better control of infections in the young. Ties Now Live Longer Back in 1915, railroad ties had to be replaced after five years of grinding and pounding under the wheels of heavy trains. The 1947 model crossties, however, hardened and preserved with creosote by im proved^ methods, are good for 30 years. Stretching the life of a tie ( sixfold saves considerable as it costs more than a dollar, not count ing labor, to renew each tie. There are are nearly 1,300,000,000 ties constantly wearing out on all the railroad lines in the United States. of Calvary Church had charge of a special service for the Choir of Clair Church. Rev. Johnson! preached a soul-stirring sermon. In the offering one hundred and two dollars was raised. At 5:30 P. M. the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held a panel of the Re port of the President’s Civil Rights Committee. At the Evening Worship at 8 o’clock, we again enjoyed another great sermon ,from Rev. A. L. Reynolds, Sr. This coming Sunday, DecemDer 7th, is Communion Sunday. This will be the last Communion Ser vice of this year, and we urge all our members to be present. Our Pastor will deliver the sermons both morning and night. Tuberculosis Hosts Lepers are extremely susceptible to tuberculosis. here’s One for the Record Movements for the public good are usually launched with great enthusiasm, but sometimes die out because sus tained effort is lacking. This is not true of the Nebras ka beer industry’s self-regula tion program to maintain wholesome conditions in the retail sale df beer. Continued with diligent effort since its launching in 1938, our Committee’s program has won the praise and support of the law enforcement officers, the press and the public. The aim of the Committee is to maintain high standards of conduct wherever beer is sold. This is accomplished by in structing and encouraging beer retailers to faithfully observe the law, particularly that pro hibiting sales to minors, to in toxicated persons and sales after hours... maintain clean, neat, sanitary places . . . and avoid all conduct displeasing or irritating to the best of customers. , These activities steadily im prove Nebraska tavern condi tions.
