Y.,Apr 19th—The NAACP Labor Department today sent resolutions urging favorable action on Fair Employment Pra ctice Legislation, and opposition to the Ball-Taft-Smith Bill and the Case Bill, both anti-labor, to each member of the House and Senate labor committees. The res olutions were passed at regional conferences of the Association in San Francisco, Calif., and Charl eston, S. C., and represented the view of delegates from twelve States Stating that there must be a rational Fair Employment Praet ce Law with adequate enforce ment power, a resolution called he introduction of Senate Bill No. 184 a step in the right direction. Vnother resolution declared, “We rre not confused or fooled by the iresent effort to pass such anti abor proposals as the Ball-Taft ,mith Bill and Case Bill. We rec ignize this legislation as an at tack upon the direction of dicta torship.” In reference to Congress cutting the funds of the U. S. Department of Labor, a resolution urged the Senate to restore the funds, es pecially those which are for the office of the United States Em ployment Service. “We condemn Employment Serviceet-goeoo ETA the practice of the State Employ ment agencies which permit the acceptance of discriminatory or ders,” this resolution continued. We call upon the governors of the states in this region to end this practice. We instruct our Labor Committees to inspect the offices of the Employment service in their communities and work to eradi cate the discriminatory practices which exist.” A final resolution urged Presid ent Truman to veto HR 2157, the bill designed to block portal- to portal suits, which has been pass ed by the Senate and House, be cause of the effect this legislation would have on the Fair Labor Standards Act.
