MINNIE LONG,’Reporter It is again the saints of God bringing you the report of their services. We are still on fire for God and our souls are still being abundantly fed by our beloved pastor, who is delivering his mes sage as never before. We attended one of the old time gospel meetings being conducted by Elder A. G. Drane of Topeka, Kansas at the Church of God in Lincoln, Nebraska. Elder Robert L. Moody pastor. We had a glor ious time being with the other saints of God and hearing the mes sage coming from a true disciple of God. Words cannot express the joy we did receive in our souls. We attended both afternoon and evening services. Our trip was enjoyed by everyone who went. The comfort of the trip was also enjoyed a Burlington Trailway bus was chartered. My thought for the week is dir ected to those who know not God in the pardon of their sins “God God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”—John 3-16 CHRIST TEMPLE CHURCH REV. C. L. CARHEE, Pastor REV. J. W. GOODWIN, Asst. We are truly enjoying spiritual services over at Christ Temple. Sunday morning, March 30th, our hearts rejoiced in the Lord while our pastor. Rev. Carhee, brought us an inspiring as well as befitting sermon on Palm Sunday. His sub ect was ‘THE TRIUMPH AT, EN TRY OF THE KING OF KINGS” (Zach. 9:9). He stressed how humbly the Lord entered the city of Jerusalem on a donkey and how men spread their cloaks upon the ground for the donkey to tread up on while others, who had no cloaks spread Palm branches along the way, so that the beast might not tread upon the ground. Visitors: Mrs. James R. McAl ister and son Juan McAlister, Mr. Thomas of Thomas Funeral Home, Mrs. Allen. Sunday evening, the Pastor and Choir worshipped with Rev. F. C. Williams Mission Circle of Zion Baptist Church. His subect was “Christ Prayer for Us” St. John 17:9,20. Another soul-stirring mes sage. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. Sunday night, Rev. T. T. McWil liams of Lincoln brought us an up lifting sermon on “Faith”. He stated that “Jesus is always near. I He has never forsaken us- Only trust Him—Believe in Him and we will forever rejoice in Him. He climaxed his sermon with an orig inal poem “Launching Out Into the Deep”. Rev. McWilliams has been appointed pastor of the Church of Christ (Kansas City, Kansas) re placing Rev. Mclnnis who has tak en over in Norfolk, Va. Recently, our own pastor. Rev. Carhee, was appointed by Bishop Wm. Washington as Chairman of the Mid-Western District, succeed ing Rev. Mclnnis. We are proud of our Ministers. They seem to be ever-ready to assume the respon sibility of lifting up Christ any where and at all times. We are proud to say that Broth er and Sister W. H. Middleton of 2016 Willis, celebrated their 50th Anniversary Sunday. Sister Mid dleton is a a member of long standing and faithfulness in our church. Dollie McCrea, President, 7:30 Evening Worship HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH 30TH & CORBY STS. , H. H. SCHAULAND, Pastor Easter proclaims the message of Christ’s resurrection. It is one of the greatest festivals of the Church year. One man has called Easter the festival of festivals. When we consider the church at tendance on Easter Sunday, we may indeed call it the most impor tant Sunday of the year. It is said that more people attend church on Easter than on any other Sunday in the whole year. However, we must not estimate the importance of Easter by the number of people who attend church on that day but in the light of God’s holy Word. People sometimes bring the “sacrifices of fools” says the Bible. They come to church for reasons other than to obtain food for their souls. For Christians Easter is of such great importance because of the comfort and joy that its message gives. The resurrection of Christ gives proof and assures Christians of four important facts: 1, That Jesus is the Son of God. 2. That Jesus has made full satisfaction for our sins. 3. It gives believers strength to forsake sin and live godly lives. 4. It is sure proof of our own res urrection on the Last Day. On Easter Sunday, 1947, let us go to our House of God to be as sured again of these four facts. Hope Lutheran invites you to at tend its Easter service at 11 o’ clock. Easter Sunday is also a good day on which to enroll your children in Sunday School. We welcome your children. Our staff of teachers is well equipped and trained to give your children the best in religious instruction. Visual aids are em ployed to help your children un derstand Bible truth. At present our teachers are receiving special training in Bible doctrine and teaching techniques. Won’t you give us a chance to lead your children to Jesus? Begin Easter Sunday! mvyyvrr'wrr Improved (j Uniform j; International II SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON -: By HAROLD L. LUNDQUIST. D. D. Of The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. Released by Western Newspaper Union. I Lesson for April 6 Lesson subjects and Scripture texts se lected and copyrighted by International Council of Religious Education: used by permission. THE RISEN LORD AND HIS DISCIPLES LESSON TEXT—John 20:19-23. 26-29; 21:15-17. MEMORY SELECTION—But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.—I Corinthians 15:20. Ever new and blessed in its touch, upon our souls is the message of Easter. To be assured once more that the grave could not hold our blessed Lord and Saviour, and that he arose in victory over sin and death, is our delightful portion in to day’s lesson. , i * It is a very appropriate conclu sion to our three month study of the Gospel of John and comes in the new quarter because of Easter Sunday. Three helpful incidents make up our lesson. I. A Risen Lord and Glad Dis ciples (20:19-23). The appearance of our Lord to his disciples after he arose from the grave emphasizes the close relation ship between the resurrection and the life and ministry of his followers. Those who live for and serve the risen Christ have a triumphant faith, an inward peace, and an outward authority and power. Their convic tions are based on the Lord’s own words which came to assure the dis ciples as they secretly assembled for fear of the Jews. He stood in their midst and spoke the words of peace (vv. 19-21) and authority (w. 22, 23). Peace of soul is absolutely essen tial to useful and satisfied living. Only as we are “steadfast, immov able,’’ can we be “abounding in the work of the Lord” (I Cor. 15:58). Steady at the center, active at the circumference. )| Commissioned and sent by the Son of God, clothed with Holy Spirit pow jer, the Church of God has his au thority. While some have read too much into verse 23, others have read out of it the real authority that God has given. Little wonder that we read (v. 20), "Then were the disciples glad when they saw the Lord.” They had rea son for real joy! II. A Convinced Doubter and Glad Testimony (20:26-29). Let those "whoj commonly absent themselves from the place and hour of worship take heed lest they miss a blessing, and earning later add nothing to the spir itual life of the church, but rather become troublers and doubters. But God graciously turns the doubt of Thomas into a means of blessing to all of us who since then have read of his experience. Thomas was an honest doubter. God is always ready to meet such with satisfactory proof. The trouble is that there are so many in the world who use professed doubts to cover a life of sin. Doubt may come to any man. In itself it is no sin. But to cherish it and hold to it in unbelief—that is a different matter. One wise spiritual leader rightly counseled his people, “Believe your beliefs and doubt your doubts. Never make the mistake of doubting your beliefs or believing your doubts.” When doubting Thomas saw thei Lord, his questions changed at once, to strong convictions and assured: personal testimony to his blessed| Lord. III. A Restored Disciple and Glad Service (21:15-17). After meeting Jesus on the first Easter morning, Peter had been as-* sured of forgiveness for his denial of the Lord and had been taken back into fellowship and service with him. But then something seemed to' have gone astray, for we find that Peter and the others had returned, to their old life as fishermen. They] seem to have lost their vision, or had become discouraged. But the Lord bad not forgotten) them. He appeared and told them! where to catch fish, and then we have the lovely scene around the fire as they breakfasted together. There it was that the Lord met Peter, and as he bad denied Christ] thrice he is asked to thrice declare, his devotion to him. j The man who thus declared hirf readiness to serve Christ to the end had many an opportunity to prove the sincerity of that profession. He, met persecution and imprisonment, but to every effort of man to close his mouth or to change his witness he had the simple reply of absolute obedience to the Lord. Tradition tells us that this faithful ness finally led Peter to a mar tyr’s death. So we see a life madq over, made powerful, made glori ous for God through the matchlesg grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He can do it for you, too. Will you let him?
