E. C... I stayed overseas two
years. I came home on a furlough
and had my wife go to my mother
in the east. I am out of service
now. Since returning I have found
out that my wife did everything
she could to make mother happy
while I was away. For some rea
son we aren’t a bit happy now.
My wife and mother fuss all the
time. If I do something for my
wife, mother pouts. If I do any
thing for mother, my wife pouts.
I am so upset I don’t know what
to do. We all three have to live in
the same room as it is impossible
to find a large place to stay out
here. I love them both very much.
Tell we what to do?
Ans: The mystery is that you
have been able to live together
this long, three in a room, with
out a royal battle. It is absurd to
try to continue such an arrange
ment. There is mutual love and
respect between your wife and
mother but the tension of jam
packing your living in one small
room is too nerve-wracking for
all concerned. Help your mother
to find a nice room to herself, for
she is not totally dependent upon
you. Once she is on her own again
relations between the three of you
will be restored to normal.
M. L...There is a young man
coming to see my daughter who
seems very nice and has asked her
to marry. She says she loves him
and he apparently loves her. My
girl is a nice girl, a high school
graduate and is smart as can be.
I don’t want her to make a mis
take. I don’t pnow very much
he takes care of his mother, sister
and brother and treats us swell,
about the fellow. I do know that
brother and he treats us swell.

tional Red Cross Central Commi.
ttee today by the Red Cross of
Incorporators meeting in Wash
ington. The first Negro to serve
on the Red Cross governing body
Patterson recently was one of the
27 member advisory committee
appointed by Chairman Basil O’
Connor to study the structure of
the organization.
Dr. Patterson has been active
in Red Cross affairs for a num
ber of years and is chairman of
the Tuskegee Chapter. Mr. O'Con
nor is chairman of the Tuskegee
board of trustees. \
Dr. Patterson is president and
organizer of the United College
Fund which includes 33 accredi.
ted Negro colleges.

WORST STORM OF LAST
SEASON STRUCK JUST
BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS
The approach of the holiday
season recalled to Captain C. J.
Sanders of the state safety patrol
that it was just the day before
Christmas last year that the
worst storm of the winter struck,
tying up traffic all over the state.
Sanders urged that Nebraska
motorists be mindful of this when
they plan their holiday travel
ing, reminding them that the first
heavy snow has yet to arrive this
year and asking that they review
the driving practices which are
most successful in accomplishing
safe winter driving.
“When starting out”, Saunders
said, “get the ‘feel’ of the road
by trying your breaks while driv.
ing siowly and when no other
vehicles are near. On wet, snowy,
or icy surfaces, reduce speed.
Even when roads may appear to
be clear, remember that bridges or
