DOUGLAS COUNTY LEADS
STATE LN BOND SALES
Nebraskans invested a total of
$10,415,181 in Series E, F, and G
United States Savings Bonds, during
the month of April, according to L.
J. Markham, State Director of the
I Treasury U. S. Savings Bonds D\i
sion.
April sales for Nebraskans showed
an increase of $1,269,181 over April,
1945, Markham said. Sales for the en
tire nation amounted to 80 per cent
of April, 1945 sales.
Douglas County led the state with j
total bond sales of $2,512,986. Lan
caster was second witti $1,118,654 in
sales and Gage placed third with total
sales of $254,656. |
The following Nebraska counties
had sales o fmore than $200,000:
Adams, Dodge, Richardson and
Seward.
Counties with bond sales in excess
of $100,000 included:
Buffalo, Cheyenne, Custer, Dawson,
Fillmore, Hall, Hamilton, Kearney,
Kimball, Knox, Lincoln, Madison,
Otoe, Phelps, Platte, Polk, Red Wil
low, Saline Saunders, Thayer, and
York.
Nebraska “E” Bond sales in April
totaled $6,972,688 compared with
“E” sales of $7,010,000 in April, 1945.
“F” and “G” sales in April totalled
$3,442,493 as against sales of $2,136,
000 in April, 1945.
“Nebraska bond sales for the first
four months of 1946 are well ahead of
sales for the same period in 1945,”
said Mr. Markham. “This indicates
that Nebraskans realize that govern
ment bonds are the soundest possible
investment.”
ART EXHIBIT AT DETROIT UR
BAN LEAGUE
An exhibition of work by American
artists will open in Detroit, Michigan,
at the Urban League, and will con
tinue from May 30 to June 6. The
exhibition, entitled “A Tribute to the
Negro People,” is sponsored by the
New Masses, national weekly publi
cation, with the assistance of the Na
tional Negro Congress, whose conven
tion is being held in Detroit during
these same days.
The Negro people have as great a
contribution to make in the graphic
and plastic arts as they have made in
music, once given the opportunity.
Proof lies in the work of the few Ne
gro artists who have managed to
come through the many barriers
raised. The people of this country are
denied rich and fruitful cultural con
tributions to the development of our
democracy by the very denial and
jim-crow practices which stand as bar
riers against the Negro people and ex
clude them from participation in ma
jor exhibits.

The seeds that fell on good ground
They brought forth as much as a hundredfold,
says the parable.
The age-old story has been used to illuminate
many a lesson. Nowhere, perhaps, does it more
aptly apply than to party lines.
The seeds, of course, arc your own neighborly
acts as you telephone—keeping calls short, allow
ing generous intervals between calls, replacing the
receiver gently when you find the line in use, and
so on. __ _
The fruit is the better telephone service enjoyed
by all, as neighbors on the line match you in cour
tesy and good will.
Most party line users have found it worth doing.
