enlisted in the Army for 3 years.
He held the rank of 1st Lieute
nant in the war time Army. Sgt.
Baker has been home on a five
month furlough. While here he

daughter. Mrs, Baker is the for
mer Daisy Coie. Sgt. and Mrs.
Baker spent 3 months of his fur
lough in Grand Island, Nebraska
visiting with his mother Mrs.
Pearl Baker Sgt. Baker is now
stationed at Aberdeen, Maryland
Mrs. Baker and daughter are re
siding with Mrs. Cole at 2723
Corby St. until Sgt. Baker is per
manently stationed.

Pfc. and Mrs. James H. Daniels
and small daughter, Alesta, are
back in Omaha after touring the
South where they visited relatives
of Pfc Daniels’. Daniels has re
enlisted in the Army for 3 years
and is now enroute to Rosewell,
New Mexico. Mrs. Daniels is the
former Faye Forrest.
H. K. PTA HOLDS
CARNIVAL
A carnival was held Friday
night, April 5th at Howard Ken
nedy School. The Carnival was
sponsored by the PTA of that
school Each room had its own
show. Among the different acts
which each room had were: A
, Style Show which included chil
dren from all rooms; A Country
Dance given by room 10; Freaks
and Oddities in room 2. There was
also Fortune Telling, Palm Rea
ding, Clowns, Bingo, A Country
Store and a hat judging contest
in various other rooms. A basket
of groceries was given away and
a movie was also shown. Pupils,
their parents, teachers and friends
had a very enjoyable evening.
Much credit is due the parents and
teachers who made the Carnival
such a wonderful success. Mrs
Laura Heacock is Principal of
Howard Kennedy and Mrs. L. C.
Simmons is president of the PTA.

HILLARY BALTIMORE
RETURNS FROM ARMY
Mr. Hillary Baltimore, son of
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Baltimore,
has been discharged from the
Army since March 9th an^ is nowr
at home with his wife, Mrs. Josie
Baltimorg 01 2858 Corb Street
He was in seryice for 30 months
and stationed at Walla Walla and
Spokane, Washington and more
recently at Dayton, Ohio. He is
now employed at Cudahy Packing
Company.

EASTER PROGRAM
The Church of God Sunday
School will have their Easter pro
gram Sunday night April 21st
at the Church. Mrs. Britt is the
superintendant of the Sunday
School and Rev. Spaght is the
pastor. Everyone is cordially in
vited to attend.
LONG SCHOOL PTA
Long School PTA recently had
its election of officers and Mrs.
Della Scott of 2120 North 27th
St. was elected president Mrs.
Milton E Johnson has served for
the past two years.
During the past year, Long
School PTA has conducted t:
seventh and eighth grade Canteen
at the Logan Fontenelle Apart
ment on the last Friday in each
month.
Mrs. Jackson ris chairman of
the Recreation Committee The
Association has also taken out a
memorial for the late Mrs. Young
ex-president of the Long PTA,
bought dishes for the school and
contributed to the Art Depart
ment. They have made contribu
tions to the Red Cross and Com
munity Chest and have narticipa
ted in Victory gardening
At the close of the year the
PTA expects 'to give a party for
their graduates.
JUNIOR CORONATION
The Missionary Society spon
sored a Junior Coronation at the
Bethel AME Church Friday, Apr
19th. Mrs. Francis Cloud is presi
dent of the Society.
The Sunday School will have its
Easter program Sunday night at
the Church and everyone is invi
ted. Mrs. Charlotte Reeves is supt

PRE-EASTER BREAKFAST
Sunday April 14th, the Clair
Methodist Church Sunbeams gave
a pre Easter breakfast. The Sun
beams is a children’s organization
of about 25 boys and girls, Mrs.
Arthur Justus of 2911 No.' 28th
St., secretary of children’s work,
sponsored the breakfast assisted
by Mrs. Jewell Miller and Mrs.
Vernetta Robinson Glover. There
was a prize presented to the boy
and girl who sol,j the largest num
ber of tickets The prize for girls
was won by Marcitia McWilliams
and the prize for boys was won by
Abraham Reynolds. A dedication
service honoring the Sunbeams
i was held before the breakfast
with the children singing “Jesus
Wants Me For a Sunbeam”. The
Sunbeams will hold their next
meeting on the fourth Sunday in
April at 4 o’clock.
RETURNS FROM HOSPITAL
Mrs. Delphia Beard at 2804
Miami St., is now at home from
St. Joseph’s hospital after an
j operation. She is convelscing ra
pidly and hopes to be out soon.
Mrs. Beard received many cards

illness and wishes to thank her
friends for their many kindnesses.

wore a lime green street dress
with a hat of matching flowers.
Her corsage was of pale yellow
carnations. William H. Henry was
be3t man. The bride was given in
! marriage by her brother in law,
Mr. A L. Reynolds of Omaha. *
Preceeding the ceremony Mr.
I Reynolds accompanied on the pi
ano by Mrs. Reynolds softly sang
"I Love You Truly.”
The bridegroom was recently
discharged from the Navy. They
plan to make their home in Oma
ha. A reception was held at the
j home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rey
nolds, brother i:i law and sister
jf the bride. Assistants were Miss
Charlene Dudley; Misses Lois;
Willene and Eleanor Brown; Miss
Betty Macey; Mrs. A. R. Justus;
Mrs C. C. Reynolds; Mrs. L. v
Gray; and Mrs. Frank Buford.
The dining room table was cov
ered with a lace tablecloth with
a centerpiece of pink and white
snapdragons and crystal candle
lebras with long white tapers. The
pastel color scheme was used all
through the house.
Many beautiful and useful pre
sents were received by the couple.

Mrs. Virginia Johnson jviffted
in Omaha with her neice, Mrs.
Fred Dixon of 2640 Binney St.
Mrs. Johnson is from New York
and is a very active member of
the Abyssinian Baptist Church of
that city. She teaches in the Sun
day School and conducts a sum
mer Bible class. While here in
addition to other things, she was
a dinner guest of Mrs. Minnie Di
xon- Mrs. Johnson left Omaha on
Monday, April 15th after a very
pleasant visit.

CURTIS WOODS RETURNS
TO NORTH CAROLINA
After his discharge from the
army and a visit with his family
and friends, Mr. Curtis Woods,
son of Mr. T. Woods of 3208 Em
mett St., has returned to North
Carolina where he attends A and
T University. He is studying to
be a physical education director.
He left school in 1943 when he
entered the service. In the service
for 3 years, Mr. 'JVoods was until
his discharge, stationed at Camp
Miles Standish in Massachusetts.

Douglas Murrell 3rd class in
the Coastguard will be discharg
ed within the next few days. Mr.
Murrell lives at 2851 Binney St.
He plans to continue his schooling
on his return to Omaha.

few weeks is improving slowly

The “Calling All Girls Club”
chartered a bus on Monday, April
15, and went to Elmwood Park
for an Easter Egg Hunt. Every
one had an enjoyable time. Helen
Jean Grey is president of the Club
and Jessie Norman is secretary.

SGT. HARRIS HAS 18
YEARS IN ARMY
Louis G. Harris has received a
promotion in rank and is now a
master sargeant, in the army. Sgt
Harris is stationed at Fort Omaha
In the army since he was 17, he
plans to retire in a couple of year
after 20 years of Service. He is 36
■ Sgt. Harris served overseas and
' was in the European Theatre of
war, and also serving in Luxem
burg, Belgium, Germany and in
France. He has five battle stars
and the Bronze Star. Sgt. and Mrs
Harris live at 2701 Maple with
their th~ree children, Louis Jr., 4,
Rachel 2, and Julien who is 16
months old.

Gray, 2628 Decatur St. There was1
no further business to be discus
sed so the meeting was adjourn
ed. Refreshments were served and
a nice time was had by all.

NEGRO YOUTH COUNCIL

The Negro Youth Council is a
progressive organization manag
ed by Negro youth. It provides
recreation for the Omaha youth
and also holds discussion meetings
at which time they examine the
racial problems confronting the
American Negro- Mr. Delbert
< Skipper ) Stewart is president of
1 the Council. He succeeded Miss
Pearl Faulkner who was the 1944
! president. Miss Faulkner was a
very active executive and Mr.
Stewart attributes the success of
the Council to her dilligent efforts
The election rule state3 that no
person will .be held in office for
more than one term. The next
election will be held in Sept, at
which time a successor will be
chosen for Mr. Stewart. Mr. Ste
wart is quite popular and a sen
ior at Technical High School.. He
lives at 2314 Paul St. He is maj
oring in chemistry and plans to
continue this field at UCLA after
graduation. Other officers are:

program for entertainment are
dances on Fridays and Saturdays

ELECTS OFFICERS
The Junior Board of the Three
Corners Canteen met last Friday
night and elected the following
officers: Pearl Faulkner, pres;
Della Jones, vice-president; Katie
Billingsley and D. Hall, reporters;
James Forrest and Albert Phillips
secretaries. A part o.f the meeting
was given over to discussing the
program of the Canteen. There
was decided by the Board to spon
sor a recruiting effort for mem
bers to the Canteen May 1st to
May 11th. All types of program
