B—I have been reading your advice to others and enjoy your articles very much. I have been writing a soldier for more than a year, he's 28 and I’m 20 We haven’t seen each other, only exchanged photos. He claims he loves me, snds me elegant gifts jand when I fail to answer his let ters promptly, he writes my mo ther asking if I am ill. Now he wants me to marry him when he returns to the States, which will be shortly. I’ve learned to enjoy his letters, appreciate his gifts and starea t his picture for hours. Can you tell me what to do? Ans: No plans can be formula ted until you two meet personally and determine if there is a mutu al bond of liking between you. He realizes as well as you do, that no serious plana should be made un- i til you two have had the oppor tunity to go together and become ' acquainted with each other. You hight write him to the effect that you look forward to meeting him when he returns but leave a loop hole—if you are disappointed when you see him or if you do not come up to his expectations, neither of you should hesitate to voice your, opinion. ) P. S.—I am 23 years of age, I've married twice already and unsuc- , cessfully, now a widow, with three 1 small children. I have to work hard naturally to support them. I am human and have a certain longing for male companionship so I started going with what 1 thought a nice fellow who has a good job but to my dismay he is married He is nice in every way, considerate and kind to the ch)l dren. His society wife seemingly is only interested in clothes and going places. He is rarely with her. I find ne loves me and I care for him too. I wouldn’t think of a > separation on his side so now be frank and tell nie what to do? j Ans: Encouraging a married man is certainly not the thing to | do- It will only bring on more grief - and complications. As long as this man lives with his wife, regard less of his feeling for her, you should not encourage him or ac cept his attentions. You are com paratively young and should seek a husband and a father for your children but a married man is no likely prospect. When you associ ate with a married man, you are decreasing your chances for get ting a mate. Your friend knows this to be a fact and if he is as fond of you ag you think him to be, he will not jeopardize your fu ture by continuing this relation ship when he knows it will lead I nowhere. C. M.—I expect to graduate from high school this year and 1 would like to attend the Embalm ing School next fall. My uncle is of the opinion that I should take a course in bartering instead of mortician work as I am not too strong, however I am not weak. Please give me some information on this subject? I Ans: You alone must decide the ' type of work you want to do as | a life’s decision is being made I Your uncle )s trying to help you | face the facts and not go into a j line of work blindly. Both prot’es j siou~ will rccuw e i.ard work but there will probably be less phy- f sical labor in the mortician field. If you are thoroughly convinced that you prefer the embalming work to that of any other then he will have no objections to your going to school and taking thL course of study. ASKS CONGRESS TO ENFORCE FOURTEENTH AMENDMENT Washington, DC.—In the light oi the failure to enact FEPG and the Senate’s resolution -^-hich seeks to reduce representation of states in Congress where large numbers or aliens are counted in the populat ion, the NAACP last week renewed a request that th Congress reduce the rprsentation of states where Ne groes are denied the right to vote. In a letter to Majority Leader John W. Macormack and Minority Leader Joseph W. Martin in the House, the NAACP called for the "Next Door" By TED SHEARER “ Well after I clear §20,000 in profits. . The letter declared that, as an ex ample, the representation of Miss issippi in the House would be reduc ed from 7 to a maximum of 4 if the amendment were enforced- “If we omit any reference to womn voters" the letter said, “we find that accord ing to the census of 1940 there were 592,557 males in that state 21 years of age and over. Of this numbet 274,977 were Negroes. “If the Congress ^yould proceed to enforce the above cited section, the representation of Mississippi in the House would be reduced by ap proximately 47 percent. In varying degrees, th same holds true for oth er states where Negroes are sv» tmatically and deliberately denied the right to vote." Pointing out that the request fori enforcing the 14th Amendment is not new- the letter declared: “However, it seems particularly pertinent now, since the Congress has begun action looking to the re duction of representation because ot the presence of non-voting aliens in the population of a numbr of states. It is pertinent, also, because of the calolus manner in which legislati n in which Negro citizens have a deep interest has been handled in the Congress even to the point that these citizens have had to endure brazen 1 iTl I! 11 m 111111111 ■! 11111111111111 ■ 11 IT 1111 24th and Lake Sts.
